Hydrostatic and uniaxial pressure dependence of superconducting transition temperature of KFe2As2 single crystals [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 86, 224514 (2012), 2012
We present heat capacity, c-axis thermal expansion and pressure dependent, low field, temperature dependent magnetization for pressures up to ~ 12 kbar, data for KFe2As2 single crystals. Tc decreases under pressure with dTc/dP ~ -0.10 K/kbar. The inferred uniaxial, c-axis, pressure derivative is positive, dTc/dpc ~ 0.11 K/kbar. The data are analyzed in

Intraoperative Fast Adaptive Focus Tracking Robotic OCT Enables Real‐Time Tumor Grading and Large‐Area Microvascular Imaging in Human Spinal Cord Surgery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The fast adaptive focus tracking robotic optical coherence tomography (FACT‐ROCT) offers real‐time, high‐resolution imaging of spinal cord tumors during surgery. By reducing motion artifacts with robotics and adaptive focal tracking, it accurately differentiates tumor grades using a novel attenuation coefficient marker and reveals critical ...

The future of dispute resolution in international trade

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract Given ongoing dysfunction of the World Trade Organization's Appellate Body, the focus of this article is on the future of trade dispute resolution, with evaluation of two questions: (i) What is the current status of WTO dispute resolution as compared to that conducted through existing preferential trade agreements (PTAs)? and (ii) What are the

Design, Modeling, and Control of a Soft Robotic Diaphragm‐Assist Device in a Respiratory Simulator

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A soft robotic diaphragm‐assist device using fabric‐based pneumatic actuators with a 2‐step control system to optimize synchronization and support is introduced. This system can detect the initiation of breathing to trigger assistance and regulate pressures to provide the correct level of inhalation augmentation. Validation and testing are completed on

Pressure exerted by a vesicle on a surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Several recent works have considered the pressure exerted on a wall by a model polymer. We extend this consideration to vesicles attached to a wall, and hence include osmotic pressure. We do this by considering a two-dimensional directed model, namely that of area-weighted Dyck paths.

Multi‐Risk‐Level Sarcopenia‐Prone Screening via Machine Learning Classification of Sit‐to‐Stand Motion Metrics from Wearable Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A machine learning approach utilizes micro inertial measurement units (μIMUs) for noninvasive sarcopenia screening through a sit‐to‐stand test. With 53 older participants wearing IMUs, 510 features are extracted across four motion phases. Five algorithms (support vector machine, K‐nearest neighbors, decision tree, linear discriminant analysis, and ...

Role of body mass index in outcomes of patients hospitalized with COVID‐19 illness

open access: yesObesity Science &Practice, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 748-756, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Background Since the start of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic, several studies have linked obesity with severity of illness as well as mortality in patients with COVID‐19. Outcomes of patients with overweight or obesity, who develop critical illness, have been studied extensively over the past decade where the studies have shown ...

Pressure at infinity and strong positive recurrence in negative curvature [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In the context of geodesic flows of noncompact negatively curved manifolds, we propose three different definitions of entropy and pressure at infinity, through growth of periodic orbits, critical exponents of Poincar\'e series, and entropy (pressure) of invariant measures. We show that these notions coincide.

An optimized perfusate for enhanced rat ex vivo lung perfusion and lung transplant models

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
We explored a low‐cost and efficient perfusate composition for use in rat ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) and lung transplant models. This perfusate demonstrates better biocompatibility, likely due to a reduction in immune responses associated with high doses of xenogenic proteins, resulting in less lung injury posttransplantation.

Impact of different anesthetic protocols during anesthesia for the establishment of a porcine model of acute kidney injury

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study details the adaptations required to establish a long‐term anesthetic protocol in pigs. Three protocols were evaluated, with some causing malignant hyperthermia, hypoglycemia, or hemoynamic instability. The final protocol proved effective for developing a porcine AKI model requiring adequate arterial pressure maintenance.
