[Positive surgical margins after radical prostatectomy].

Urologia, 2014
Positive surgical margins (PSMs) in radical prostatectomy specimens are usually considered a negative prognostic parameter. However, their definition and the management of patients with PSMs remain unclear. The aim of the present review is to define pathological features of PSMs,to report their incidence and risk factors and to update PSMs prognostic ...

Positive Surgical Margins: Race or Surgeon?

European Urology, 2015
The present study by Jalloh et al. published in this month’s issue of European Urology aimed to investigate the influence of racial variations on pathologic outcome after radical prostatectomy (RP) for low-risk prostate cancer (PCa) patients. The positive surgical margin (PSM) rate was significantly higher in the African American group (31%) than in ...

Radical prostatectomy: Positive surgical margins matter

Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations, 2013
A positive surgical margin (PSM) in the radical prostatectomy (RP) specimen is associated with biochemical recurrence (BCR) and the need for adjuvant radiation therapy, and is a surrogate for surgical quality. We review the available data describing the identification, anatomy, and management of PSM after RP.A PubMed search (using English language as a

Classroom Competencies and Marginal Positionings

British Journal of Sociology of Education, 1994
Abstract In this paper we examine the way students are positioned in classrooms in terms of the binary power/powerlessness and its relation to other binaries such as teacher/student, white/black and competent/incompetent student. We show how those positioned in the marked non‐ascendant pair of each binary are assumed, from the perspective of ‘teaching ...

Positive Surgical Margins After Nephron-Sparing Surgery

European Urology, 2012
Little is known on the natural history of positive surgical margins (PSMs) in partial nephrectomy (PN). Accumulating data suggest that secondary nephrectomy might not be necessary in all patients with PSMs after PN.Provide an overview on incidence and risk factors for PSMs after partial nephrectomy and on the rate of local and distant disease ...

Positive Margins: Is Adjunctive Radiation Therapy Indicated?

Acta Oncologica, 1991
Patients with margin positive disease after radical prostatectomy are prognostically disadvantaged. The question of postoperative adjunctive radiotherapy in these patients is controversial. A retrospective study suggested that adjunctive radiation therapy reduced the local recurrence rate but did not alter survival.

[Conization with positive margins].

Contraception, fertilite, sexualite (1992), 1999
We received all conizations performed between 1986 and 1997. The incidence of positive margins conization for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia is 7.8% (23.8% in others studies). Persistent or recurrence disease occur only in 35% of cases; so new treatment is not always usefull and cytology and colposcopy are adequate for follow-up.

Positive surgical margins after partial nephrectomy

Nature Reviews Urology, 2010
Small renal tumors are generally managed by partial nephrectomy; however, positive surgical margins are occasionally found on final pathologic examination. Growing evidence suggests that the presence of positive margins does not adversely affect outcomes; these patients can potentially be managed expectantly with close follow-up without compromising ...
