Oscillatory migration of accreting protoplanets driven by a 3D distortion of the gas flow

open access: yes, 2019
Context. The dynamics of a low-mass protoplanet accreting solids is influenced by the heating torque, which was found to suppress inward migration in protoplanetary disks with constant opacities. Aims.

Robust BDCM Sensorless Control With Position-Dependent Load Torque [PDF]

open access: yes2007 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2007
This paper presents the robust sensorless operation for brushless DC motors (BDCMs) loaded by the position- dependent load where the load torque is a function of the rotor angle (not electrical angle). Without any position sensor, the reliable position signals are generated from the motor terminal voltages through sensorless circuits.

Optimizing preoperative bone health assessment for adult spinal deformity: a prospective correlation analysis of intraoperative pedicle screw insertion torque and imaging modalities in Japan [PDF]

open access: yesAsian Spine Journal
Study Design Prospective cohort study. Purpose This study aimed to identify the optimal preoperative bone health assessment for adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery through correlation analysis between intraoperative pedicle screw (PS) insertion torque ...

Time-domain stability of parametric synchronization in a spin-torque nano-oscillator based on a magnetic tunnel junction

open access: yes, 2017
We report on a time-domain study of parametric synchronization in a magnetic tunnel junction based spin torque nano-oscillator (STNO). Time-domain measurements of the instantaneous frequency ($f_{i}$) of a parametrically synchronized STNO show random ...

Current-driven dynamics of chiral ferromagnetic domain walls [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In most ferromagnets the magnetization rotates from one domain to the next with no preferred handedness. However, broken inversion symmetry can lift the chiral degeneracy, leading to topologically-rich spin textures such as spin-spirals and skyrmions via

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Type I migration in optically thick accretion discs

open access: yes, 2012
We study the torque acting on a planet embedded in an optically thick accretion disc, using global two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations. The temperature of an optically thick accretion disc is determined by the energy balance between the viscous ...

The steady oblique path of buoyancy-driven disks and spheres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We consider the steady motion of disks of various thicknesses in a weakly viscous flow, in the case where the angle of incidence $\alpha$ (defined as that between the disk axis and its velocity) is small.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.
