Positivity, Complete Positivity, and SOS Representation
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2009Summary: The gap between positive multivariate polynomials and the sum-of-squares (SOS) representation has resurfaced as a problem of importance and interest in control theory. A representation theorem for a bihermitian form is proved. A linear map and its dual are associated with this unique form.

Weight-by-Position by Position
Natural Language & Linguistic Theory, 1999This paper proposes an Optimality-Theoretic (Prince and Smolensky 1993) account of variable closed syllable weight. It is shown here that contextually-dependent weight, as Hayes (1994) calls it, is a consequence of simultaneously comparing monomoraic and bimoraic parses of closed syllables for constraint satisfaction.

Agile methods are increasingly adopted by European companies. Academics too are conducting numerous studies on different tenets of agile methods. Companies often feel proud in marketing themselves as ‘agile’. However, the true notion of ‘being agile’ seems to have been overlooked due to lack of positioning of oneself for agility. This raises a call for

Prone position can prevent ventilator-induced lung injury in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients receiving conventional mechanical ventilation and, hence, may have the potential to improve survival from this basis. Even though no single randomized controlled trial has proven benefit on patient outcome until recently, two meta-analyses ...

Positive Statements, Positive Students, Positive Classrooms
Australian Journal of Guidance and Counselling, 2003This paper describes the influential role that positive statements made by teachers has on upper primary school students' mental health as measured by their self-perceptions and their satisfaction with their classroom environment. The notion forwarded is that positive statements, when delivered by teachers under specific conditions, have a positive ...

Surgical positioning is a very important aspect of caring for the patient intraoperatively. All surgical team members must work together to safely move and secure the patient to adequately expose the surgical site. The type of surgical position, anesthesia used and the patient's health status continue to be factors which contribute to optimizing the ...

Positional nystagmus may be persistent or transitory. Of the persistent forms, type I refers to nystagmus changing direction in different head positions and type II to nystagmus beating in a single direction. Both types may denote either peripheral or central abnormality.

Conservation: a positive position
IEEE Spectrum, 1973There are obvious, often emphasized, correlations between increasing consumption of electricity and the high-consumption society we have enjoyed-especially over the last generation. Of course, we all tend to complain about the unanticipated by-products of the new life styles built on intensive mechanization and electrification: rising pollution ...
