A Method to Measure Positron Beam Polarization Using Optically Polarized Atoms
We outline an experimental technique for measuring the degree of polarization of a positron beam using an optically pumped, spin-polarized Rb target. The technique is based on the production and measurement of the ortho- and para-positronium fractions ...

Positron-Induced Luminescence [PDF]
We report on the observation that low-energy positrons incident on a phosphor screen produce significantly more luminescence than electrons do. For two different wide-band-gap semiconductor phosphors (ZnS:Ag and ZnO:Zn), we compare the luminescent response to a positron beam with the response to an electron beam.

Hypernovae and light dark matter as possible Galactic positron sources [PDF]
The electron-positron annihilation source in the Galactic center region has recently been observed with INTEGRAL/SPI, which shows that this 511 keV source is strong and its extension is consistent with the Galactic bulge geometry. The positron production

Simulations of slow positron production using a low energy electron accelerator
Monte Carlo simulations of slow positron production via energetic electron interaction with a solid target have been performed. The aim of the simulations was to determine the expected slow positron beam intensity from a low energy, high current electron

Calculation of the positron bound state with the copper atom [PDF]
A new relativistic method for calculation of positron binding to atoms is presented. The method combines a configuration interaction treatment of the valence electron and the positron with a many-body perturbation theory description of their interaction ...

The Positronium state in quartz
The positronium state in quartz is described by a linear superposition of two states: the first describing the free positron in the crystal and the second corresponding to a positronium Bloch wavefunction in the lattice.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...
