Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy of annealed tungsten
Kerntechnik, 2022Abstract Three samples of 99.97% pure rolled tungsten were annealed at 700 °C, 1000 °C, and 1400 °C in a vacuum of about 10−6 mbar for 1 h. Then the effects of annealing were investigated. For this purpose, defects and their structure in the three annealed samples and the as-received sample, were studied, characterized, and compared by ...

Single shot positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy
Applied Physics Letters, 2006Recent developments in positron trapping technology have made possible experimentation with dense interacting positronium gases. Along with these capabilities comes a need for suitable measurement techniques, and accordingly we have developed a method to measure positronium lifetimes from a single intense burst of positrons.

Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy Using Positrons from Bremsstrahlung Production
Defect and Diffusion Forum, 2012A new type of a positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) system has been set up at the superconducting electron accelerator ELBE [ at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. In contrast to existing source-based PALS systems, the approach described here makes use of an intense photon beam from electron bremsstrahlung which converts through pair ...

Source correction in positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 1996The positron lifetimes in a source have been measured. The fraction of positrons annihilated in salt and in the Kapton supporting foils has been determined as a function of the atomic number Z of the sample. All of the experimental results have been compared with calculated values obtained from a computer program based on a Monte Carlo algorithm.

Nanocrystalline alloys studied by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy
physica status solidi c, 2007AbstractNanocrystalline alloys present a new class of materials that exhibit interesting magnetic properties. These stem primarily from the presence of crystalline grains with the size of several tens of nanometers embedded in a residual amorphous matrix.

Open volume in bioadhesive detected by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy
Acta Biomaterialia, 2010Barnacles attach to a wide variety of surfaces underwater and show substrate-specific adhesion mechanisms. Investigating and understanding these mechanisms is a key for developing new technical adhesives. We expected open volume (porosity) at the sub-nanometre scale to occur in barnacle adhesive.
