Positron lifetime studies in borocarbides
Abstract Positron lifetime measurements have been carried out in RNi 2 B 2 C, with R Y, Lu, Ho, Er, Tb and Ce, at room temperature. A systematic increase in the bulk lifetime from 130 ps to 145 ps is observed with increase in unit cell volume. Theoretical computations of the positron lifetime, also carried out on these systems show a trend in ...

A positron lifetime spectrometer for a DC positron beam
Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2003Abstract A lifetime spectrometer for use with an isotope-based DC positron beam is described. The system utilizes secondary electrons emitted from the sample and annihilation gamma rays to determine positron lifetimes. The device has been tested with porous silica films capped with a 25 nm layer of Cu.

Positron decay curves in various metals have been measured, using careful sample preparation techniques and a delayed-coincidence system with 0.30-nsec (full width at half-maximum) prompt time resolution and ${10}^{4}$:1 peak-to-background ratio. Evidence was found that the annihilation in pure metals under ideal conditions is characterized by a single

Positron Lifetime in Mordenitel
Crystal Research and Technology, 1988AbstractPositron lifetime spectra have been measured for mordenite pure and impregnated with various amounts of metallic gold being highly dispersed. The change of annihilation characteristics (in comparison to those corresponding to the pure mordenite), resulting both from the presence of gold particles in the zeolite matrix and the way of treatment ...

Positron lifetime distributions in fluids
Physical Review E, 1993Experimental studies of positron and positronium decay in dense fluids suggest that these particles are capable of forming self-trapped states in some fluids in a broad region of temperature and density surrounding the liquid-vapor critical point. A central question in understanding the phenomena is whether the light particle (1p) actively creates a ...

Positron lifetimes in phospholipid dispersions
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1977Positron lifetimes have been determined in phospholipid dispersions. In fluid phosphatidylcholines, a lifetime of 3.3 ns is found, and a lifetime of 2.8 ns is found for frozen phosphatidylcholines. In dispersions where fluid and frozen phases coexist due to lateral phase separation, an intermediate lifetime is found.

The suitability of the positron-lifetime technique to the study of native vacancies in GaAs is demonstrated. Significant variations in positron lifetime among a variety of as-grown GaAs single crystals were observed. The longest positron lifetime was found in undoped samples. Annealing in vacuum at 300–500 °C reduced the long-lifetime component.
