Possessive Agreement Turned into a Derivational Suffix
2018This paper introduces a non-canonical type of grammaticalization: it argues that the -ik partitive suffix of Hungarian has been grammaticalized from a 3PL possessive agreement morpheme, undergoing semantic bleaching (the loss of person and number features, i.e., the loss of referential identifiability), decategorization, and morphologial simplification.
