An Indonesian Democracy: limits of a majoritarian democracy

open access: yesJurnal Ilmiah Hubungan Internasional, 2017
Indonesia has continuously been praised as a successful post-authoritarian country transitioning to democracy. However, seeing the numerous human rights violations in the past decade alone especially towards alternative political, religious and sexual ...

Stepwise On‐Surface Synthesis and Transformations of Two‐Dimensional Covalent Organic Frameworks by Controlled Thermal Stimuli

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The seminal transformation of a 2D‐COF (SURFCOF‐IMDEA1) into a 2D porous COF (SURFCOF‐IMDEA2) on Au(111) by a sequential C‐C coupling and ladderization triggered by thermal annealing steps at increasing temperatures is reported. Abstract The development of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is currently a primary objective in materials science, taking ...

Spin‐Split Edge States in Metal‐Supported Graphene Nanoislands Obtained by CVD

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Combining STM measurements and ab‐initio calculations, we show that zig‐zag edges in graphene nanoislands grown on Ni(111) by CVD retrieve their spin‐polarized edge states after intercalation of a few monolayers of Au. ABSTRACT Spin‐split states localized on zigzag edges have been predicted for different free‐standing graphene nanostructures.

POST-DEMOCRACY AND EDUCATION

open access: yes, 2021

Topology and Material Optimization in Ultra‐Soft Magneto‐Active Structures: Making Advantage of Residual Anisotropies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Residual magnetization induces pronounced mechanical anisotropy in ultra‐soft magnetorheological elastomers, shaping deformation and actuation even without external magnetic fields. This study introduces a computational‐experimental framework integrating magneto‐mechanical coupling into topology optimization for designing soft magnetic actuators with ...

Self‐Powered Flexible Triboelectric‐Gated Ion‐Gel Transistor for Neuromorphic Tactile Sensing and Human Activity Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A fully flexible ion‐gel‐gated graphene‐channel transistor driven by a triboelectric nanogenerator enables self‐powered tactile sensing and synaptic learning. Mimicking spike‐rate‐dependent plasticity, the device exhibits frequency‐selective potentiation and depression, supporting rate‐coded neuromorphic computation even under flex.

Book review of Post-Truth, Fake News and Democracy: Mapping the Politics of Falsehood (second edition), by Johan Farkas and Jannick Schou, Routledge, 2024, 219 pages

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Communications and Public Relations
In the past decade, public discourses on post-truth have become ubiquitous across the global public sphere, rapidly normalized as a convenient explanation for declining trust, the rise of populism, and the erosion of democratic institutions (Ferretti ...

Viral Infection‐Inspired Autonomous Detection of Fusion‐Competent Viruses for Screening and Environmental Surveillance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by viral entry mechanisms, the FUSION assay enables autonomous detection of respiratory viruses via membrane fusion–triggered CRISPR‐Cas13a activation. VEACON selectively fuses with fusion‐competent viruses, triggering fluorescence within confined vesicles.
