The impact of a vancomycin intervention on vancomycin‐associated nephrotoxicity in children: a quality improvement initiative

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy Practice and Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Vancomycin is first‐line treatment for methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. However, despite guideline recommendations, there is no evidence that targeting vancomycin trough concentrations of ≥15 mg/L in children confers clinical benefit and is associated with vancomycin‐associated nephrotoxicity (VAN ...

The art of avoidance: bedsite use, antipredator strategies, and predation risk in white‐tailed deer fawns

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Horizontal visibility, rather than concealment cover, drove fawn bedsite use and predation risk. Greater field of view decreased the odds of coyote predation, likely by facilitated by early detection. As fawns transitioned from hiders to followers, they shifted from using dense overstory concealment to more open overstory that favored improved escape ...

LncRNA NORAD Enhances Inflammatory Injury in Sepsis‐Associated Acute Lung Damage Through miR‐150‐5p/STAT1‐Dependent NF‐κB Activation

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Acute lung injury (ALI) is a severe complication of sepsis, yet the role of lncRNA NORAD in its pathogenesis remains unclear. Using LPS‐stimulated BEAS‐2B and HBEC3‐KT cells as well as cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)‐induced ALI models in C57BL/6 mice, we found that NORAD expression was markedly upregulated and promoted cell injury ...

Alterations in MicroRNA and Cytokine Expressions in Placental and Amniotic Tissues of COVID‐19 Affected Pregnant Women

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Since 2019, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) has been associated with increased risks of preterm birth and placental complications. We prospectively investigated alterations in microRNAs (miRNAs) and cytokines in placental and amniotic tissues from pregnant women with and without COVID‐19 to evaluate the infection's impact on pregnancy ...

Influence of Tracheostomy Level on Surgical Management of Pediatric Airway Stenosis

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Tracheostomy location is a critical determinant of surgical complexity and outcomes in pediatric laryngotracheal stenosis. Misplacement may lead to longer tracheal resections, an increased need for stoma relocation, more complex reconstruction, and secondary stenosis. Strategic planning of tracheostomy position can improve surgical outcomes.

Myasthenia Gravis and Thymoma

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Thymoma is the most common tumor of the anterior mediastinum. Approximately 20%–30% of patients with a thymoma develop myasthenia gravis (MG), and an additional one third may possess positive acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibodies without MG.

The Sheep Project (3): A Review of Age‐at‐Death Estimation From Mandible Stage Schemes in the Light of a High Resolution Known‐Age Shetland Sheep Dataset

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The largest published dataset of sheep (Ovis aries) cheek tooth wear recorded from known‐age skeletonized mandibles is presented, with raw data disseminated as a supplement. The dataset has previously been used to investigate the influence of sex, nutrition, and breeding status on dental maturation (eruption and wear of individual teeth). Here,

Hemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn: Fetal RHD Genotyping, Targeted Prophylaxis, and Prenatal Therapies

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) remains a significant concern in prenatal care primarily caused by maternal alloimmunization against fetal red blood cell antigens, most commonly the D antigen. Noninvasive fetal RHD genotyping, used as a screening tool, enables targeted antenatal prophylaxis and has been implemented in several
