Linkage Between Electoral Cycle and the Discouragement of African Firms in the Credit Market
International Finance, EarlyView.ABSTRACT This article analyzes the linkage between the electoral cycle and the discouragement of SMEs in the credit market of 14 African countries. It focuses on 12,145 firms over the period 2006–2020. The results obtained from Probit estimates show elections are negatively linked with the discouragement of firms in the credit market.

Proximity to War: The Stock Market Response to the Russian Invasion of Ukraine
Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, EarlyView.Abstract We identify a “proximity penalty” in the stock market response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine: the closer countries are to Ukraine, the lower their equity returns in a four‐week window around the start of the war. This result holds even at the firm level within Ukraine's neighbors. Trade linkages explain two‐thirds of the proximity penalty.
