Evaluation of the post-welding heat treatment effect on compatibility with hydrogen.
Ferrous Metallurgy. Bulletin of Scientific , Technical and Economic InformationThe article covers effect of post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) on the properties of thermo-mechanically treated (TMT) pipeline steel in interaction with hydrogen gas. The object of the study were specimens of the base metal and longitudinal welded joints of X65 large diameter pipes in the initial state (after TMT) and after PWHT.

A viscoplastic model for numerical simulation of welding and post-weld heat treatment
Le Journal de Physique IV, 1999A viscoplastic model is developed to perform numerical simulation of welding and post-weld heat treatment in an industrial context. It can describe with the same formalism the steel inelastic behaviour all along the process: time-independent plastic at low temperature, viscoplastic at higher temperature and viscous fluid for melted metal.

The influence of post-weld heat treatment on microstructure of TC4 weld joints
Materials Research Innovations, 2015The effect of one two-step high-temperature post-weld heat treatment on the microstructure of TC4 weld joints has been studied in our experiment, and as a result, the weld joints with attractive mechanical property have been obtained. The weld joints consisted of lamellar martensitic α, retained β and primary α, therefore microstructure of the weld ...

Analysis of residual stress relief mechanisms in post-weld heat treatment
International Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 2014Abstract This paper presents a recent study on weld residual stress relief mechanisms associated with furnace-based uniform post-weld heat treatment (PWHT). Both finite element and analytical methods are used to quantitatively examine how plastic deformation and creep relaxation contribute to residual stress relief process at different stages of PWHT

The effect of post weld heat treatment on welds in steel structures
1983The effect of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) on residual stresses, yield strength and toughness as well as on microstructural features of submerged are weld metal was studied with three types of C-Mn-steels. All techniques used for measuring residual stress reduction in PWHT were found insufficient to adequately characterise the stress distribution ...

Post Weld Heat Treatment of Oilfield 13Cr Stainless Steels
CONFERENCE 2024Abstract Type 13Cr martensitic stainless steels are widely used for threaded and coupled oilfield casing and tubing because of their resistance to corrosion by dissolved carbon dioxide and their cost advantage over most other corrosion-resistant alloys. However, 13Cr used for welded downhole components requires careful planning.

The effect of post-weld heat treatment on microstructure of AISI 316L steel
2007Excellent mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steels may become affected by microstructural changes occurring as a result of welding followed by heat treatment. An investigation was carried out on welded AISI 316L steel joints produced by manual electric arc welding technique and then submitted to post-weld heat ...

Critical Factors in Optimizing Post-Weld Heat Treatment for Structural Integrity
Volume 4: Gas Turbines; Pressure Technologies; Robotics & AutomationAbstract The 2014 Edition of ASME B31.3, Process Piping, introduced significant changes to the post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) requirements for P-No. 1 carbon steel materials. According to the revised code, PWHT is no longer mandatory for any wall thickness, provided a minimum preheat of 95°C (200°F) is applied for nominal material ...
