Postbuckling of Hyperelastic Plates

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2016
Curvature is simply expressed as the second derivative of the plate deflection in prior studies of post-buckling of plates. It is shown in this paper that the higher-order terms in curvature should be retained, consistent with Koiter's post-buckling theory. This paper also solves the dilemma whether the increase of post-buckling load is proportional to

Postbuckling and Free Vibrations of Composite Beams

Volume 1: 21st Biennial Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, Parts A, B, and C, 2007
An exact solution for the postbuckling configurations of composite beams is presented. The equations governing the axial and transverse vibrations of a composite laminated beam accounting for the midplane stretching are presented. The inplane inertia and damping are neglected, and hence the two equations are reduced to a single equation governing the ...

Postbuckling Analysis of Composite Laminated Panels

AIAA Journal, 2000
A description is given of the development of a spline e nite strip method for predicting the response of composite laminated, prismatic panels to a progressive uniform end shortening. The response is assumed to be geometrically nonlinear, with the nonlinearity introduced in enhanced strain ‐displacement equations in a total Langrangian approach.

Analysis and testing of a postbuckled stiffened panel

AIAA Journal, 2002
The suitability of using the efficient, linear elastic design software VICONOPT for the analysis of a stiffened panel with a postbuckling reserve of strength is investigated. A longitudinally compressed panel, which initially buckled in a local skin mode, was analyzed with allowance being made for the effects of an initial overall imperfection.

Postbuckling Analysis of a Magnetoelastic Beam

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1972
The initial postbuckling behavior of an elastic ferromagnetic beam in a transverse magnetic field is studied. The cantilever beam is found to be imperfection-sensitive. Imperfections due to deviations from straightness of the beam and due to misalignment of the field with the normal to the beam are investigated.

CFRP fuselage structures - postbuckling permitted

Air & Space Europe, 2001
CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastics) fuselage structures are expected to be realized with future generations of aircraft. Going into the postbuckling regime with these structures requires improved, fast and reliable procedures for analysis and design of stiffened fibre composite panels.

Postbuckling Analysis of Flexible Elastic Frames

Journal of Applied and Industrial Mathematics, 2018
completely geometrically nonlinear beam model based on the hypothesis of plane sections and expressed in terms of engineering strains and apparent stresses is applied to the structural analysis of frames. The numerical results are obtained by the Raley–Ritz method with a representation of solutions as a sum of analytical basis functions which were ...

On the Topological Classification of Postbuckling Phenomena

Journal of Structural Mechanics, 1978
Abstract The classification of initial postbuckling behavior is known to be governed by the energy function of the critical equilibrium state, and this can be emphasized by viewing the load as a Lagrange multiplier in a constrained minimization.

Postbuckling of tapered plates

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1969
Abstract A general method of analysing the postbuckling of variable-thickness plates with edges restrained against lateral expansion is described. Since the deflexions are often greater than the plate thickness the large deflexion equations apply and these are solved using the dynamic relaxation method. After comparing the results with an alternative

Postbuckling of Orthotropic Annular Plates

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1973
The postbuckling behavior of orthotropic annular plates due to in-plane compressive loads applied at the outer edge is considered. The governing differential equations are derived by extending von Karman’s nonlinear plate theory to include orthotropic material properties. It is then assumed that the deformations are restricted to axisymmetric forms and
