CILIARY‐BLOCK GLAUCOMA TREATED BY POSTERIOR CAPSULOTOMY

Abstract Ciliary‐block glaucoma occurred in one eye of a 65‐year‐old‐male, following a combined trabeculectomy and extracapsular lens extraction for long‐standing angle‐closure glaucoma. After pupillary block was excluded as a cause, a posterior capsulotomy resolved the condition.

Endophthalmitis Following Nd: YAG Laser Posterior Capsulotomy

ABSTRACT We report the development of Propionibacterium acnes endophthalmitis following Nd: YAG laser posterior capsulotomy. The patient previously underwent uncomplicated extracapsular cataract extraction with intraocular lens insertion and was free of inflammation prior to laser capsulotomy.

On-the-table posterior capsulotomies were performed in 38 patients with a 30-gauge bent needle behind a bag-fixated posterior chamber J-loop lens with 10-degree angled loops. Ten of the patients (26.30%) developed fluorescein cystoid macular edema (CME) and four patients (10.52%) developed clinical CME within three months.
