A total of 83 eyes with transsclerally sutured PCLs were followed for an average of 10.5 months (range 2-23 months). The vast majority of patients benefitted considerably from the procedure; 8% of cases experienced a reduction in visual acuity and 2% suffered monocular visual loss.

[Posterior fixation keratoprosthesis].

Keratoprosthesis is the last solution available to the corneal blind patient unsuitable for corneal graft. Keratoprosthesis by anterior fixation requires repeated operations and results are therefore variable. The concept of keratoprosthesis by posterior fixation is presented. This theoretically reduces the risk of expulsion.

Unilateral posterior atlantoaxial transarticular screw fixation

✓ Bilateral posterior C1–2 transfacet screw placement with associated posterior bone graft wiring is the accepted treatment for patients with atlantoaxial instability. This technique was modified to treat 19 patients with atlantoaxial instability and unilateral anomalies that prevented placement of a screw across the C1–2 facet.
