DINOSim: Training‐Free Semantic Segmentation on Microscopy Images

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, EarlyView.
DINOSim enables training‐free semantic segmentation of microscopy images from simple point prompts by leveraging DINOv2 embeddings, achieving performance comparable to supervised methods and robust generalization across diverse biological domains. ABSTRACT We present DINOSim, a training‐free method for segmenting objects in microscopy images without ...

Characteristics of Boundary Layer Height Variations in Global Arid Regions and Their Sensitivity to Influencing Energy Factors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Global warming has intensified drought impacts across most arid regions, altering surface energy partitioning and atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) development. Using 1979–2018 ERA‐Interim reanalysis data, we show that the long‐term mean boundary layer height (BLH) over global arid regions is approximately 841.8 m, nearly 200 m higher than over humid ...

Resting energy expenditure measured by whole‐room and portable indirect calorimetry in adults with breast cancer: A comparison study

open access: yesJournal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Accurate measurement of resting energy expenditure is essential for informing nutrition support and optimizing outcomes. However, gold standard methods for measuring resting energy expenditure are often unfeasible in clinical settings, and previous portable devices have lacked accuracy.

Cutting through the noise: What can habitat selection modeling teach us about caribou‐fire space use dynamics?

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We synthesize the current knowledge regarding caribou habitat selection in relation to wildfires. Caribou responses to recent burns were generally weak and highly variable across subspecies or ecotypes, suggesting that post‐fire habitat selection is likely context‐dependent and the need for regionally adapted habitat management strategies.

Bayesian multi‐state mark‐resight modeling of survival and cause‐specific mortality from telemetered individuals: European fallow deer in Australia

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We illustrate how a Bayesian multi‐state mark‐resight (MSMR) modeling approach can be used to estimate survival and cause‐specific mortality probabilities of GPS‐collared European fallow deer in southeastern Australia. Our case study illustrates the flexibility of Bayesian MSMR models for incorporating imperfect detection probability (arising from ...

Structural Carotid Atherosclerosis and Mild Behavioral Impairment: A Cross‐Sectional Study in a Community‐Dwelling Population

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mild behavioral impairment (MBI) is a late‐life neuropsychiatric syndrome proposed as an early clinical manifestation of neurodegenerative disease. Vascular pathology contributes to late‐life cognitive and behavioral changes; however, its relationship with MBI remains insufficiently characterized.
