The common feature of seven patients to be described in this communication is a retinal detachment localized to, or ap­ parently originating from, a circumscribed posterior staphyloma; a retinal hole was present in every case, usually at the macula. However, this syndrome is re­ markably rare considering the frequency of posterior staphylomas.
