Macular Complications Associated With Posterior Staphyloma
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1997To report macular abnormalities associated with posterior staphyloma in eyes with myopia. In a retrospective study, we surveyed 116 eyes of 58 patients with myopic refractions. Myopic fundus abnormalities are related to clinically quantified posterior staphyloma formation.A posterior staphyloma was present in 88 (75.9%) of 116 eyes with myopic ...

Dome-shaped Macula in Eyes With Myopic Posterior Staphyloma
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2008To describe an unusual feature in myopic eyes responsible for visual loss, which we call a dome-shaped macula.Retrospective, observational case series. After observing isolated cases of dome-shaped macula, we analyzed optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans of 140 highly myopic eyes present in our OCT database to find similar cases.

Outcome of cataract surgery associated with posterior staphyloma
Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1999To assess the outcome of cataract surgery in eyes with posterior staphyloma and identify predictors of surgical success.Tertiary care referral center.A retrospective analysis was conducted of 107 consecutive patients with posterior staphyloma and 107 control patients who had cataract surgery.

CT of posterior ocular staphyloma in axial myopia
Neuroradiology, 1984We present two cases of posterior ocular staphylomas in axial myopia. CT findings of an enlarged globe with focal posterior bulging and scleral-uveal rim thinning appear to be specific for this diagnosis.

Presence of Posterior Staphyloma in Congenital Cataract Children
Current Eye Research, 2019Purpose: To investigate the prevalence of posterior staphyloma (PS) in congenital cataract children and its role in predicting postoperative axial elongation.Materials and Methods: Preoperative prevalence of PS in 520 congenital cataract patients was reviewed and compared with that of the healthy eyes of 300 unilateral traumatic cataract children after

Complications associated with posterior staphyloma
Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 1998Macular degeneration can result in legal blindness among those with progressive myopia and posterior staphyloma. Programmed photoreceptor death, apoptosis, is operative in some. Electrophysiologic and psychophysiologic techniques can permit detection of functional abnormalities before lesions become clinically apparent.

Multimodal Imaging of Posterior Staphyloma
2020Recently, many different methods have been used to visualize posterior staphyloma. Each method has its strengths and limitations, thus, multimodal imaging is considered to be useful for visualizing many features of staphyloma.

3D MRI of Posterior Staphyloma
2020Three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (3D MRI) of the eye is a powerful tool to visualize the entire shape of the eye. Using 3D MRI, posterior staphylomas can be observed in its full extent and how the entire eye shape changes in parallel. It has also been shown that some specific eye shape is related to poor visual outcome.

Clinical Characteristics of Posterior Staphyloma in Eyes with Pathologic Myopia
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2008To determine the morphologic features (grade and type) of posterior staphylomas and to analyze the relationship between the morphologic features and the incidence of myopic macular lesions.Observational case series. Two hundred and nine eyes of 108 consecutive patients with high myopia were studied.

Posterior staphylomas in non-highly myopic eyes with retinitis pigmentosa
International Ophthalmology, 2020Our aim was to highlight the presence and the frequency of posterior staphyloma (PS) in non-highly myopic retinitis pigmentosa (RP) patients and to study the relationship between PS and choroidal thickness (CT).This was a retrospective case-control study of 77 eyes (39 patients) with RP, axial length inferior to 26 mm and clinically preserved macular ...
