Preventing posterior collapse in variational autoencoders for text generation via decoder regularization [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Variational autoencoders trained to minimize the reconstruction error are sensitive to the posterior collapse problem, that is the proposal posterior distribution is always equal to the prior. We propose a novel regularization method based on fraternal dropout to prevent posterior collapse.

Identification of Genetic Variants Causing Paediatric Cataract in Myanmar

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
Up to 60% of children with cataract in Myanmar have a causative variant in a known cataract gene. This is a similar rate to other populations screened to date, but highlights that there are more cataract genes left to identify. ABSTRACT Genetic testing for paediatric cataract detects a cause in 50%–70% of affected children but is as low as 20% in some ...

IID Sampling from Doubly Intractable Distributions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Intractable posterior distributions of parameters with intractable normalizing constants depending upon the parameters are known as doubly intractable posterior distributions. The terminology itself indicates that obtaining Bayesian inference from such posteriors is doubly difficult compared to traditional intractable posteriors where the normalizing ...

Microphthalmia with multiple ocular abnormalities in a foal

open access: yesVeterinary Ophthalmology, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective The aim of this report was to provide a clinical description and clinical, ultrasonographic, and histologic images of a foal with microphthalmia and multiple ocular abnormalities. Animals Studied A 12‐h old Friesian‐American Paint Horse crossbred filly presented for blindness, microphthalmia and marked ventral strabismus in both eyes.

Reconstruction of deep and perforating corneal defects in dogs—A review (Part II/III): Biomaterials and keratoprosthesis

open access: yesVeterinary Ophthalmology, Volume 28, Issue 2, Page 532-542, March 2025.
Abstract The surgical reconstruction of severe corneal ulcers is a common and crucial component of the clinical practice of veterinary ophthalmology. Numerous surgical techniques are used in dogs for corneal reconstruction, and these techniques may be categorized by the material used to repair the corneal lesion.

A Symmetry-Aware Exploration of Bayesian Neural Network Posteriors [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The distribution of the weights of modern deep neural networks (DNNs) - crucial for uncertainty quantification and robustness - is an eminently complex object due to its extremely high dimensionality. This paper proposes one of the first large-scale explorations of the posterior distribution of deep Bayesian Neural Networks (BNNs), expanding its study ...

Staphyloma-related chorioretinal folds

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports, 2020
Purpose: To report a case of bilateral idiopathic chorioretinal folds that seemed to be related to an atypical staphyloma. Observations: A 49-year old man without medical history consulted for slight vision loss and metamorphopsia in the left eye.
