open access: yes, 2017
: The aim of this study was to obtain the microscopic and microscopic postmortem changes of urinary bladder in domestic pigs. This was a descriptive observational study. The observations were performed at several time intervals, as follows: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,

Postmortem magnetic resonance imaging

open access: yes, 2018
This chapter provides a brief overview of studies that combine postmortem magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and histopathology. We touch upon the logistics of setting up a protocol that limits unwanted postmortem delays and explain how combining ...

Effect of humidity on postmortem changes in rats

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Science
In veterinary forensic science, accurately determining the postmortem interval (PMI) is crucial for identifying the causes of animal deaths. Autolysis, a significant postmortem process, influences PMI estimation, but its relationship with humidity is not well understood. This study aimed to improve the accuracy of PMI estimates in veterinary forensic ...

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Organ changes found by postmortem examination in covid-19 patients

open access: yes, 2020
The postmortem study results presented in 20 sources of literature on 186 COVID-19 patients were analyzed. Pathological changes were noted in multiple organs, by involving predominantly the respiratory, circulatory, and excretory systems.

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

open access: yes, 2017
: Medicolegal examination is beneficial in police investigation inter alia to determine the time of death and causes as well as mechanisms of death. Postmortem macroscopic and microscopic changes could be alternatives to estimate the time of death.

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Postmortem ventilation: a new method for improved detection of pulmonary pathologies in forensic imaging

open access: yes, 2012
Postmortem imaging has gained prominence in the field of forensic pathology. Even with experience in this procedure, difficulties arise in evaluating pathologies of the postmortem lung.
