Predicting inadequate postoperative pain management in depressed patients: A machine learning approach

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Widely-prescribed prodrug opioids (e.g., hydrocodone) require conversion by liver enzyme CYP-2D6 to exert their analgesic effects. The most commonly prescribed antidepressant, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), inhibits CYP-2D6 activity and

RADA16 and SAAP148 Peptide‐Modified Collagen Self‐Assembled Hydrogels for Accelerated Healing of Infected Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Collagen type I (Col I) is integrated with self‐assembling peptide RADA16 and loaded with anti‐bacterial peptide SAAP148 to develop a self‐assembled nano‐microstructure hydrogel (Col I‐RADA16‐SAAP148, CRS) without chemical cross‐linkers. CRS exhibits excellent mechanical properties, sustained SAAP148 release to inhibit bacterial infection, macrophage ...

Pharmacotherapy of acute postoperative pain: update. [PDF]

open access: yesBatna Journal of Medical Sciences
Postoperative pain (POP) is acute pain resulting from the stimulation of nociceptors due to tissue trauma during a surgical procedure. Its intensity varies depending on the nature of the surgery and the individual's sensitivity. Effective management of

Dual‐Anchored Clickable Peptide via SPAAC for Gelatinase‐Responsive Antibacterial and Osteogenic Functions on Titanium Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To address the infection‐associated orthopedic implant failures, this study presents a gelatinase‐responsive antibacterial titanium implant (Ti‐Dual) featuring a dual‐anchored fusion peptide containing antibacterial (HHC36) and osteogenic (RGD) domains connected by a cleavable GPLGV linker.

Postoperative pain management in the postanesthesia care unit: an update

open access: yesJournal of Pain Research, 2017
Acute postoperative pain remains a major problem, resulting in multiple undesirable outcomes if inadequately controlled. Most surgical patients spend their immediate postoperative period in the postanesthesia care unit (PACU), where pain management ...

Assessment of postoperative pain management and comparison of effectiveness of pain relief treatment involving paravertebral block and thoracic epidural analgesia in patients undergoing posterolateral thoracotomy

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2019
BackgroundTEA (thoracic epidural analgesia) is considered a basic method of analgesia used in thoracic surgeries. PVB (paravertebral block) is an alternative method.

Co‐Treatment With rhBMP‐2 and Rapamycin Modulates Osteogenesis–Adipogenesis Balance to Enhance Aged Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that the imbalance between osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation in senescent BMSCs, leading to excessive adipocyte accumulation, which subsequently impairs bone regeneration in aged mice. To address this pathological dysregulation, a novel energy‐supplying hydrogel system (PBR) has been developed to restore balanced ...

ROS‐Responsive Wedelolactone Hydrogel Promotes Intervertebral Disc Repair by Disrupting the NF‐κB–LCN2 Inflammatory Feedback Loop

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A mechanically robust, ROS‐responsive hydrogel is engineered to treat intervertebral disc degeneration by targeting the NF‐κB–LCN2 inflammatory feedback loop. By delivering wedelolactone specifically within oxidative niches, this system disrupts macrophage–disc cell crosstalk.
