Rapid postseismic transients in subduction zones from continuous GPS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research, 2002
Continuous GPS time series from three of four recently measured, large subduction earthquakes document triggered rapid postseismic fault creep, representing an additional moment release upward of 25% over the weeks following their main shocks.

Postseismic Viscoelastic Rebound

Science, 1974
The sudden appearance of a dislocation, representing an earthquake, in an elastic layer (the lithosphere) overriding a viscoelastic half space (the asthenosphere) is followed by time-dependent surface deformation, which is very similar to in situ postseismic deformation.

Postseismic relaxation and aftershocks

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2007
Perfettini et al. (2005) suggested that the temporal dependence of surface displacements u(t) measured in the epicentral area following an earthquake is related to N(t), the cumulative number of aftershocks, by the equation u(t) = a + bt + cN(t) + d(1 − e−αt), where a, b, c, d, and α are constants chosen to fit the data and t is the postearthquake time.

Postseismic Deformation Monitoring With the COSMO/SKYMED Constellation

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2011
COSMO/SKYMED is currently the unique constellation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensors operative, which is also for civilian use. On April 6, 2009, an Mw 6.3 earthquake struck the city of I'Aquila in Central Italy. The constellation acquired data stacks over the hit area at an unprecedented temporal rate.

Imaging topographic growth by long-lived postseismic afterslip at Sefidabeh, east Iran

open access: yesTectonics, 2014
This paper describes observations and models of the postseismic deformation following the 1994 Sefidabeh earthquake sequence in east Iran, which shed light on the nature of the earthquake cycle and the mechanisms of topographic growth in the region ...

The role of rheological heterogeneities in postseismic deformation

2022
<p>Advances in modelling and access to InSAR and GNSS observations have highlighted the role that rheological heterogeneities play in postseismic deformation. Here we discuss three recent studies (Muto et al. 2019, Sambuddha et al. 2022, and Takada et al.
