Increased far-field landslide hazards due to postseismic acceleration by the 2017 Mw 6.4 Nyingchi earthquake

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Earth Observations and Geoinformation
Landslides represent a major type of earthquake-triggered geohazard, with their dynamic evolution influenced by the complex interaction of postseismic environmental factors.

InSAR Postseismic Displacements of the 2023 Turkey Earthquakes

open access: yes
The two major earthquakes (magnitude 7.8 and 7.6) in southeastern Turkey in 2023 resulted in a combined fault rupture length of 500 km. The events were driven by the northward motion of the Arabian Plate colliding with the Eurasian Plate and the westward escape of the Anatolian Plate.

Influences of the heterogeneity of viscoelastic medium on postseismic deformation of the 2008 MW7.9 Wenchuan earthquake

open access: yesGeodesy and Geodynamics, 2022
The study of postseismic deformation is important for constraining the viscoelastic properties of the Earth and inverting the post-earthquake process. The levelling survey revealed that the area near Beichuan elevated 5.3 cm about two years after the MW7.

Numerical simulation of coseismic and postseismic deformation through a node-splitting algorithm: A case study of the Wenchuan earthquake

open access: yesDizhi lixue xuebao, 2021
The coseismic and postseismic effects are crucial elements in analyzing fault interactions and the regional seismic risk. In this paper, we developed a three-dimensional viscoelastic finite element code to simulate the coseismic and postseismic ...

Spatial–temporal properties of afterslip associated with the 2015 Mw 8.3 Illapel earthquake, Chile

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2021
In order to characterize the spatial–temporal properties of postseismic slip motions associated with the 2015 Illapel earthquake, the daily position time series of 13 GNSS sites situated at the near-field region are utilized.

Coseismic and postseismic fault slip characteristics of the 2020 MW6.3 Nima earthquake

open access: yes地球与行星物理论评, 2023
The 2020 MW6.3 Nima earthquake occurred in the northern Yibug Caka graben on the Qiangtang Block of the Tibetan Plateau. The epicentral area has complex geological structures, topography, and geomorphology, and there are few near-field ground observation

Postseismic relaxation and transient creep [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2005
Postseismic deformation has been observed in the epicentral area following the 1992 Landers (M = 7.3), 1999 Chi‐Chi (M = 7.6), 1999 Hector Mine (M = 7.1), 2002 Denali (M = 7.9), 2003 San Simeon (M = 6.5), and 2004 Parkfield (M = 6.0) earthquakes. The observations consist of repeated GPS measurements of the position of one monument relative to another ...

Postseismic response of repeating aftershocks [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1998
The recurrence intervals of repeating earthquakes on the San Andreas Fault in the Loma Prieta aftershock zone follow the characteristic 1/t decay of Omori's law. A model in which these earthquakes occur on isolated patches of the fault that fail in stick‐slip with creep around them can explain this observation.

Realization approach of non-linear postseismic deformation model for Taiwan semi-kinematic reference frame

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2020
Surface displacements associated with earthquake-cycle deformation of active faults significantly influence the accuracy of geodetic datum and reference frames, especially for the Taiwan area with high plate convergence and deformation rates.

Improvement on spatial resolution of a coseismic slip distribution using postseismic geodetic data through a viscoelastic inversion

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2020
Obvious crustal deformation is observed during a postseismic period as well as a coseismic period associated with a large earthquake. Major mechanisms of transient postseismic deformation are known as afterslip and viscoelastic relaxation.
