Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...

Engineering Strain‐Stiffening Granular Hydrogels for 3D‐Printed Tissue‐Mimicry

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printable strain‐stiffening double‐network granular hydrogel (SDGH) enables independent, region‐specific tuning of toe (EToe) and heel (EHeel) moduli through control of microgel packing and network composition. This platform replicates tissue‐like nonlinear mechanics and allows fabrication of high‐fidelity, multilayered aortic valves with ...

Niche Partitioning of the N Cycling Microbial Community of an Offshore Oxygen Deficient Zone

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Microbial communities in marine oxygen deficient zones (ODZs) are responsible for up to half of marine N loss through conversion of nutrients to N2O and N2. This N loss is accomplished by a consortium of diverse microbes, many of which remain uncultured.

Effect of submicron particles on electrowetting on dielectrics (EWOD) of sessile droplets

open access: yes, 2011
The present study elucidates the effects of included submicron-sized particles on the wetting behavior of sessile droplets under the influence of applied electric field in an electro-wetting-on-dielectric (EWOD) configuration. A thermodynamic description

Ferroelectric Dynamic‐Field‐Driven Nucleation and Growth Model for Predictive Materials‐To‐Circuit Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a compact dynamic‐field‐driven nucleation and growth (DFNG) model that captures ferroelectric switching behavior under arbitrary voltage waveforms. It enables extraction of time‐dependent domain wall velocity and growth dimensionality, which can then be extended to device‐level modeling.

Quantification of the lithogenic carbon pump following a simulated dust-deposition event in large mesocosms [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2014
Lithogenic particles, such as desert dust, have been postulated to influence particulate organic carbon (POC) export to the deep ocean by acting as mineral ballasts.

Cloud-Chamber Observations of Some Unusual Neutral V Particles Having Light Secondaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 1954
From six cloud-chamber photographs of unusual V0 decay events, the following conclusions are drawn: (1) there is a neutral V particle that decays into two particles lighter than κ mesons with a Q value too small to be consistent with a θ0(π, π, 214 Mev ...

Energy–speed relationship of quantum particles challenges Bohmian mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes
Classical mechanics characterizes the kinetic energy of a particle, the energy it holds due to its motion, as consistently positive. By contrast, quantum mechanics describes the motion of particles using wave functions, in which regions of negative local

Malectin Alleviates Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus via Glycoprotein Quality Control Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Malectin alleviates high glucose‐induced ER stress and damage in placental trophoblasts, a function dependent on its six critical carbohydrate‐binding residues. In a GDM mouse model, administration of TAT‐Malectin ameliorated hyperglycemia and placental ER stress and prevented fetal macrosomia.

Size transformations of intermediate and low density lipoproteins induced by unesterified fatty acids.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1991
Plasma from individual human subjects is known to contain multiple discrete subpopulations of low (LDL) and intermediate (IDL) density lipoproteins that differ in particle size and density.
