Walk training system: improvement of the ability of postural control
Proceedings of the 1997 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robot and Systems. Innovative Robotics for Real-World Applications. IROS '97, 2002It is necessary to develop machinery that will help the aged support themselves, and the ambulatory capability is most important for the aged. We therefore started developing the Walk Training System for use in walk rehabilitation. To provide walk rehabilitation that can be adapted to trainees who have unequal leg abilities due to strokes, we designed ...

Postural Control Systems in Developmental Perspective
Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews, 1998How can the adult postural organisation be elucidated using an ontogenetic approach, and what questions can be raised about ontogenesis starting from the organisation of adult posture? These questions will be addressed taking three aspects of postural organisation.

Interaction control for postural correction on a riding simulation system
Proceedings of the 2014 ACM/IEEE international conference on Human-robot interaction, 2014A horseback riding simulator is a robotic machine that simulates the motion of horseback riding. In this paper, we present an interaction control system for a horseback riding simulator. The proposed system provides a postural correction function suited to the user based on their historical log and specialized posture coaching data.

Gravistatic postural control in simpler systems
Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 1991Most types of human and animal motor behaviour are spatially oriented. Studies of the fish gravity orientation system are proving particularly valuable for understanding the functional organization of this system in higher animals. In particular, the development of in vitro central nervous system preparations with gravity sensory organs that exhibit a '

Responses of the posture-control system to pseudorandom acceleration disturbances
Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1980By means of a servocontrolled force plate, pseudorandom acceleration disturbances were imposed upon a standing subject. By measuring and processing the responses of a subject, we computed the frequency-response functions of the posture-control system. The experimental results are discussed from a viewpoint of control engineering.

Application of Nonlinear Dynamics to Human Postural Control System
2005 IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology 27th Annual Conference, 2005Instability, fear of falling and fall injuries are common problems for the older population and individuals with chronic disabilities. Development of screening tools and outcome measures of balance performance and fall risk has become of great interest for health professionals and researchers in the field of rehabilitation.

Real-time stability measurement system for postural control
Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, 2011A method for assessing balance, which was sensitive to changes in the postural control system is presented. This paper describes the implementation of a force-sensing platform, with force sensing resistors as the sensing element. The platform is capable of measuring destabilized postural perturbations in dynamic and static postural conditions.

Anticipative humanoid postural control system for locomotive tasks
2014 IEEE-RAS International Conference on Humanoid Robots, 2014Postural control of humanoid robots during locomotion tasks has been typically focused in keeping balance by means of classic feedback control systems. The study of human behaviour in postural control reveals the existence of an anticipative component for postural control introduced by means of a feedforward system.

A Posture Control System for the Treatment of Scoliosis
1997A posture control system has been developed to help scoliotic children improve the cosmetic appearance of their trunk. The system consists of an electromagnetic transmitter and receivers and a microcontroller. The electromagnetic system measures topographical features of the trunk; the microcontroller analyses the acquired data and provides immediate ...

Role of visual input in nonlinear postural control system
Experimental Brain Research, 2002Stabilometry signals involve irregular and unpredictable components. The purpose of the present study was to investigate these signals with a nonlinear technique to examine how the complexity of the postural control system breaks down under altered visual conditions.
