Idiopathic Orthostatic Intolerance and Postural Tachycardia Syndromes

The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 1999
Upright posture imposes a substantial gravitational stress on the body, for which we are able to compensate, in large part because of the autonomic nervous system. Alteration in autonomic function, therefore, may lead to orthostatic intolerance. On one extreme, patients with autonomic failure caused by degenerative loss of autonomic function are ...

Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, and Overlapping Syndromes

Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 2005
Background: Inappropriate sinus tachycardia (IAST) and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) are syndrome complexes with some distinctive features, overlapping clinical manifestations, and potential common mechanisms. Pathogenesis of these overlapping syndromes is poorly understood.

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)

2003

Orthostatic Intolerance: Orthostatic Hypotension and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome

2010
In health, movement from lying or sitting to standing is largely unassociated with evident change in well-being. However, in some individuals, especially those who are physically deconditioned, there may be a transient sense of increased heart rate.
