The spectral characteristics of postural sway behaviour

European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology, 1982
To determine whether recognisable profiles of sway behaviour are characteristically found among normal subjects the energy content of a contiguous series of bandwidths were computed from power density spectra of the sway behaviour of 29 young men and 29 young women.

Weak magnetic vestibular stimulation decreases postural sway

Neuroscience Letters
Perceptible galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) causes nystagmus and postural sway deterioration. Conversely, imperceptible GVS improves postural stability, suggesting the presence of stochastic resonance.Similar to GVS, strong magnetic vestibular stimulation of 7 T induces nystagmus and increases body sway.

The postural sway test: A historical note

International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, 1972
Abstract The modern literature on hypnotic and related phenomena generally credits Hull as the originator, around 1929, of the Postural or Body Sway test. However, at least 4 descriptions and discussions of this type of test can be found in the French scientific literature published between 1887 and 1914.

Illusory motion causes postural sway

Perception, 2013
Visual stimuli simulating self-motion through the environment can induce potent postural adjustments in observers. This suggests a rather direct, stimulus-driven, mechanism subserving these visuo-vestibular interactions. Here we examine whether visual-motion induced sway can also be generated by an internal representation of visual motion, as apparent ...
