Analysis and modeling of human postural control

IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine, 2003
uman balance is critical to many aspects of our daily lives. Even the act of standing quietly requires a complex integration of multiple sensory inputs, decision processes, and motor planning. For many of us, these complicated control processes generally work well and are consequently taken for granted.

Sitting posture analysis by pressure sensors

2008 19th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 2008
It has been promising to provide personalized services for improving our living environment in support of information technologies. Sitting is one of the natural actions in our daily life. We focus on sitting behavior as a cue for providing such services. We used a pressure sensor seat on a chair for identifying sitting postures. In the experiments, we

Postural analysis of nursing work

Applied Ergonomics, 1996
Back pain in the nursing profession is an acknowledged wide spread occupational hazard. This study used OWAS (Ovako Working posture Analysis System) to measure the severity of the working postures adopted by nurses on Care of the Elderly wards when carrying out manual handling operations for animate and inanimate loads.

Integrated postural analysis in children with haemophilia

Haemophilia, 2014
SummaryThe maintenance of a correct posture in haemophilic boys might contribute to prevent joint bleeds, chronic pain and dysfunction. This single‐centre study was aimed at evaluating whether or not postural alterations are more common in haemophilic than in non‐haemophilic boys and whether they are related to the orthopaedic status.

A system for the analysis of posture and stance in quadrupeds

Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 1987
This paper describes a system for the quantitative analysis of posture and stance in the freely standing quadruped. The focal point of the system is a moving force platform operated by hydraulic servos under computer control. Cats are trained to stand on a support consisting of 4 force plates.

A stability analysis of a standing posture in paraplegia

2004 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37583), 2005
A paraplegic patient can keep a standing posture called 'C-posture' with an orthosis. The foot joints are fixed in dorsiflexion, and the knee joints are fixed in maximum extension with the orthosis. The feature of the C-posture is that the body center of mass is located behind the hip joints.

Time-frequency analysis of postural sway

Journal of Biomechanics, 1995
Postural sway during quiet stance has been used to characterize the postural control system. Most studies have used center of pressure (COP) measurements and have assumed stationarity, however, recent research has indicated that COP is not stationary.

Signature verification with writing posture analysis

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
A video-based handwritten signature verification framework is proposed in this paper. Using a camera as the sensor has the advantage that the entire writing processes can be captured along with the signatures. The main contribution of this work is that writing postures are analyzed to achieve the verification purpose because the writing postures cannot

Roentgenographic Analysis of Posture in Spinal Osteoporotics

Spine, 1991
This study was designed to investigate the relationship between postural deformities--including both the spine and lower extremities--and clinical symptoms in spinal osteoporotics. Lateral roentgenographic films of 100 osteoporotic patients taken in a standing position were analyzed.

Assessment of Postural Analysis in a Dialysis Clinic

2017
Nursing is one of the most hazardous occupations. The study aims to investigate the discomfort perceived by the nurses in a dialysis clinic, assess the clinic workspace and its effect on the nurse’s posture, and establish the factors associated to the perceived discomfort.
