Isotopic Studies of the Body Potassium Content in Thyrotoxicosis.
Summary1. A radioactive isotope of potassium (K42) was used to determine the exchangeable potassium content (Ke) in 13 subjects with untreated thyrotoxicosis. The Ke values were lower in untreated thyrotoxic males than in normal male subjects. It is concluded that the low Ke values could be attributed to a decrease in the total muscle mass of the body,

Decoupling climate and human impacts on the nitrogen cycle during the Irish Bronze Age
ABSTRACT Disentangling climate variability and human activity in past nitrogen cycling is key to understanding ecosystems. Previous studies in Ireland observed a widespread, permanent shift in terrestrial nitrogen cycling during Later Prehistory, potentially linked to intensifying land‐use.

ABSTRACT Permafrost is rapidly degrading in the sporadic zone, including palsa mires in Scandinavia. Peatlands in the area have likely accumulated heavy metals from atmospheric deposition of industrial contaminants in the wider region. As the palsa mire chemical composition is not well known, and in other permafrost regions the permafrost thaw may ...

Impact of Nitrogen Deposition on Carbon and Nitrogen Cycling in Peatlands Under Land‐Use Change
ABSTRACT Increasing nitrogen (N) deposition significantly alters carbon and N dynamics in peatlands by affecting microbial processes, enhancing greenhouse gas emissions and nutrient leaching into adjacent waters. However, how peatland conversion for agriculture and forestry influences the fate of added N under elevated atmospheric deposition remains ...

Mass spectrometry imaging of N‐linked glycans: Fundamentals and recent advances
Abstract With implications in several medical conditions, N‐linked glycosylation is one of the most important posttranslation modifications present in all living organisms. Due to their nontemplate synthesis, glycan structures are extraordinarily complex and require multiple analytical techniques for complete structural elucidation.

Nutritional Composition and Safety Aspects of Deep-Sea Whelks (Buccinum tenuissimum Kuroda)
The deep-sea whelk Buccinum tenuissimum Kuroda is highly sought-after as food in East Asian countries, notably, Korea and Japan. However, it lacks official recognition as a food product in Korea. This study aimed to assess its nutritional composition and

Impacts of reindeer grazing on phosphorus sorption and nutrient availability in a tundra site
Reindeer Rangifer tarandus, a large circumpolar herbivore, can influence whether nitrogen (N) or phosphorus (P) is the primary limiting nutrient in tundra plant communities. Specifically, findings from a site in northern Scandinavia suggest that under conditions where reindeer grazing stimulates inorganic N availability, grazing may drive ecosystems ...

Mineral Speciation for CO2 Captured by Potassium Hydroxide
Multimodal and deconvolution analysis of the crystalline and amorphous mineral products from the rapid capture of CO2 in aqueous, aqueous‐ethanol, and aqueous‐acetone solutions of potassium hydroxide by complementary single‐crystal and powder X‐ray diffraction, and high field 1H, 13C, and 39K NMR, provides new insight into the speciation of both KHCO3‐
