Inductively Expandable Supraparticles as Microscopic Force Generators for Remote Mechanical Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the combination of magnetic nanoparticles and functional blowing agents into supraparticles. Upon induction heating, they actuate via rapid gas generation or extensive volume expansion. These supraparticles lift up to 25 000 times their own mass and rapidly open cured epoxy resins, providing a versatile strategy for fast micron ...

Nitrate leaching in grazed grasslands of different composition and age [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In a field experiment at Research Centre Foulum a suction cup technique was used to investigate nitrate leaching from grassland depending on composition (grass-clover or perennial ryegrass), management (grazing or cutting) and age of the swards.

Photoacoustic Nanotagging for In Vivo Tracking and Optimization of Macrophage Immunotherapy in Solid Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Macrophage‐based immunotherapy for solid tumors is limited by poor tracking of cell localization and persistence. This study introduces nanotagged macrophages enabling near‐infrared photoacoustic imaging for real‐time monitoring. IFNγ‐conjugated tags enhance antitumor polarization without harming viability.

Atom–Cluster Synergy in Scalable Fe–Ru Dual‐Site Architectures Accelerates Alkaline Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A mechanochemically synthesized dual‐site electrocatalyst (RuNC@Fe1NC) accelerates alkaline hydrogen evolution via atomic‐level spatial decoupling. Oxophilic Fe single atoms effectively dissociate water, while adjacent Ru nanoclusters rapidly recombine hydrogen.

Temporal variability of nitrate transport through hydrological response during flood events within a large agricultural catchment in south-west France [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The temporal variability of nitrate transport was monitored continuously in a large agricultural catchment, the 1110 km2 Save catchment in south-west France, from January 2007 to June 2009.

A Multifunctional Ionograsper Enabling Ion‐Redistribution Proximity Sensing and Structural‐Reconfiguration‐Driven Bidirectional Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A solid‐state ionic actuator integrates sensing, actuation, and memory within one material. A brief UV pulse induces long‐lasting deformation via coupled network rearrangement, dehydration, and rehydration, while ionic redistribution enables self‐powered sensing, supporting multifunctional, energy‐efficient soft robotic functions without continuous ...

THE INFLUENCE OF VARIED NITROGEN FERTILIZATION ON YIELD AND CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF SWISS CHARD (Beta vulgaris L. var. cicla L.)

open access: yesActa Scientiarum Polonorum: Hortorum Cultus, 2008
The examinations were aimed at determining the dependence between form and rate of applied nitrogen fertilizer vs. yield and chemical composition of leaves of Swiss chard cultivated in greenhouse in spring.

Effect of Exogenous Potassium on the Reduction in Tar, Nicotine and Carbon Monoxide Deliveries in the Mainstream Smoke of Cigarettes

open access: yesContributions to Tobacco and Nicotine Research, 1990
Deliveries of tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide in mainstream smoke decreased as the exogenous-potassium content of tobacco increased. The puff count was almost unchanged with added potassium malate, but slightly decreased with added nitrate.

Anaerobic biodegradation of DDT in contaminated soil by biostimulation: laboratory and pilot-scale studies

open access: yesActa Universitatis Carolinae Geographica, 2017
Bioremediation of 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl) ethane (DDT) by biostimulation of native microbial populations in soil was investigated in a lab-scale and pilot scale under anaerobic conditions.
