Rapid and sensitive detection of potato virus Y by isothermal reverse transcription-recombinase polymerase amplification assay in potato.

Molecular and Cellular Probes, 2020
In this study, an isothermal reverse transcription-recombinase polymerase amplification (RT-RPA) assay was developed for the efficient and accurate detection of potato virus Y (PVY) under isothermal conditions.

Variability of Potato Virus Y in Potato Crops in France

Journal of Phytopathology, 1999
A collection of 332 PVY isolates, originating from potato crops, was characterized in order to seek the newly described PVY variants, PVYNW and PVYZ. Serologically, 284 samples were found to contain only PVYO, 36 samples to contain only PVYN, whereas 12 samples were doubly infected by both PVYO and PVYN. All 36 isolates, serologically PVYN‐typed and 16

Physiology of the Potato–Potato Virus Y Interaction

2012
Many morphological, physiological, and phytochemical changes in plants are caused by biotic stress. Response of plants to various pathogenic microorganisms and pests is described at different levels: changed morphology of the plant and development of symptoms like lesions and necrosis; alterations in hormone concentrations; signaling molecules ...

Characterization of potato virus Y populations in potato in Israel

Archives of Virology, 2019
Potato virus Y (PVY) is the most common virus infecting potato worldwide. We analysed potato tuber PVY infections from the major Israeli growing region in 2014-2017. Isolates were characterized by multiplex PCR according to Chikh-Ali et al. (Plant Disease 97, 1370, 2013), whose primers were not fully compatible with the Israeli isolates.

Using Support Vector Machines classification to differentiate spectral signatures of potato plants infected with Potato Virus Y

Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, 2018
Potato Virus Y ( Potyviridae , PVY) has resulted in significant economic harm to potato ( Solanum tuberosum ) farmers and has disrupted seed supplies to commercial growers, especially in varieties with beneficial processing and marketing attributes but ...

Increasing In-Row Spacing Enhances Potato Virus Y and Potato Leafroll Virus Spread in Potato

American Journal of Potato Research, 2015
For potato, variety, tuber size, and chip or fresh markets all play a role in deciding which in-row spacing is used. Aphids are attracted to wide row spacings and as plant densities decrease, aphid densities increase. Wide in-row spacing could render ineffective any pest management tactic that exploited aphid colonization behavior through habitat ...

Priming Potato with Thiamin to Control Potato Virus Y

American Journal of Potato Research, 2016
Potato virus Y (PVY) is a major potato pathogen affecting potato yields worldwide. Thiamin, a water-soluble B vitamin (vitamin B1) has been shown to boost the plant’s immunity, thereby increasing resistance against pathogens. In this study, we tested different concentrations of thiamin (1 mM, 10 mM, 50 mM, 100 mM) and multiple thiamin applications ...

Discussion paper: The naming of Potato virus Y strains infecting potato

Archives of Virology, 2007
Potato virus Y (PVY) strain groups are based on host response and resistance gene interactions. The strain groups PVY(O), PVY(C) and PVY(N) are well established for the isolates infecting potato in the field. A switch in the emphasis from host response to nucleotide sequence differences in the virus genomes, detection of isolates recombining sequences ...

Continuous and Emerging Challenges of Potato virus Y in Potato

Annual Review of Phytopathology, 2013
Potato virus Y (PVY) is one of the oldest known plant viruses, and yet in the past 20 years it emerged in the United States as a relatively new and very serious problem in potato. The virus exists as a complex of strains that induce a wide variety of foliar and tuber symptoms in potato, leading to yield reduction and loss of tuber quality.

Incidence of potato virus Y and potato leaf roll virus in autumn potatoes in Israel

Potato Research, 1981
Random sampling of autumn grown potatoes in Israel revealed potato virus Y incidences of 2.7, 2.5 and 3% during the years 1976, 1977 and 1978, respectively, figures only slightly higher than those found in spring-planted fields (2.3% in 1976), and which agree with visual estimates by the Inspection Service.
