Physics Education, 1970Attention is drawn to common errors in diagrams of wave functions associated with the incidence of uniform beams of particles on potential barriers. The role of time dependence (i.e. phase of the incident wave) is emphasized and simple solutions, with detailed diagrams, are given for a potential step and for a rectangular potential barrier.
