Sickle Cell Disease Is an Inherent Risk for Asthma in a Sibling Comparison Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Sickle cell disease (SCD) and asthma share a complex relationship. Although estimates vary, asthma prevalence in children with SCD is believed to be comparable to or higher than the general population. Determining whether SCD confers an increased risk for asthma remains challenging due to overlapping symptoms and the ...

Effect modification and its impact on preventable and attributable fractions in the potential outcomes framework

open access: yesJournal of Epidemiology
Background: Policy decisions should be guided by measures that capture the impact of exposures on outcomes and that explicitly account for present-day exposure distribution. Both the preventable and attributable fractions have been used for this purpose; however, exposure effects can vary across subpopulations, and when this occurs, appropriate ...

Global fit to $b \to c \tau \nu$ transitions

open access: yes, 2019
We perform a general model-independent analysis of $b \to c \tau \bar{\nu}_\tau $ transitions, including measurements of $\mathcal{R}_D$, $\mathcal{R}_{D^*}$, their $q^2$ differential distributions, the recently measured longitudinal $D^*$ polarization ...

Potential Early Risk Biomarkers for Reduced Forced Expiratory Volume in Children Post‐Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We sought to identify potential early risk biomarkers for lung disease in children post‐allogeneic HCT. Patients with pulmonary function tests 3 months post‐transplant and plasma samples between days 7 and 14 post‐HCT were included. Six of 27 subjects enrolled had reduced forced expiratory volume 1 (FEV1) z scores.

Critical parameters for the presence of a 2DEG in GaN/AlxGa1−xN heterostructures

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
In this computational study, the influence of GaN/AlxGa1−xN layer stack parameters, such as surface potential, aluminum mole fraction, and background donor concentration, on the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) density in a heterostructure is verified.

Properties of Pineapple Leaf Fibers with Paper Waste as An Absorbing-Composite to Reduce Noise

open access: yesJurnal Ilmiah Pendidikan Fisika Al-Biruni, 2022
Natural product-based noise-absorbing composite can be an alternative to replace synthetic fiber because of its advantages of high strength, toughness, low price, and abundance to reduce noise.

Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Pediatric, Adolescent, and Young Adult Patients With Osteosarcoma: Local Control Outcomes With Dosimetric Analysis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Osteosarcoma is a radioresistant tumor that may benefit from stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for locoregional control in metastatic/recurrent disease. We report institutional practice patterns, outcomes, toxicity, and failures in osteosarcoma patients treated with SBRT.

Attributable fraction and related measures: Conceptual relations in the counterfactual framework

open access: yesJournal of Causal Inference, 2023
The attributable fraction (population) has attracted much attention from a theoretical perspective and has been used extensively to assess the impact of potential health interventions. However, despite its extensive use, there is much confusion about its
