Mitigation of Potential-Induced Degradation

2017 IEEE 44th Photovoltaic Specialist Conference (PVSC), 2017
Since potential-induced degradation (PID) is driven by voltage, heat, and humidity, all PV systems can be susceptible to PID and the associated power output drop of 30 percent or more [1]. The failure mechanism depends on the module's voltage potential and leakage current to facilitate ion migration through the antireflection coating (ARC) from other ...

Study of the potential-induced degradation kinetics

2016 IEEE International Reliability Physics Symposium (IRPS), 2016
A dedicated set-up which allows a real-time characterization of the PV modules, while being subjected to the Potential-Induced Degradation (PID) test, was developed and tested. This real-time characterization includes the measurement of the dark I/V curve and the acquisition of electroluminescence (EL) images at different biasing levels.

Potential-Induced Degradation for Thin-Film Si Photovoltaic Modules

Extended Abstracts of the 2016 International Conference on Solid State Devices and Materials, 2016
Abstract Potential-induced degradation (PID) of thin-film Si photovoltaic (PV) modules was investigated. The characteristics of PID phenomena of thin-film Si PV modules are markedly different from those of crystalline Si PV modules. Not only performance loss but also linear-shape and spot-shape delamination was observed after negative

Estimation of potential induced degradation in solar Mini-modules

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2020
Abstract This work includes the quantitative determination of the effect of potential induced degradation (PID) on the performance of solar mini-module. The PID effect has been studied experimentally by applying a DC voltage of −1000 V on the solar modules with respect to module frame at room temperature (25 ± 1°C) for different time durations.

Review of Potential‐Induced Degradation in Bifacial Photovoltaic Modules

Energy Technology, 2023
Bifacial modules are increasingly deployed in the field and are expected to represent half of the market share within 10 years. Their rear structure differs from monofacial modules to allow additional light absorption. However, it brings new reliability challenges to address.

Investigation of Potential‐Induced Degradation and Recovery in Perovskite Minimodules

Progress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications
ABSTRACTPotential‐induced degradation (PID) is a prevalent concern in current commercial photovoltaic technologies, impacting their reliability, with the mechanistic basis for PID in perovskite photovoltaic technologies being poorly understood. Here, we investigate the PID mechanism in perovskite minimodules.

Modeling the Leakage Current for Potential Induced Degradation

2013
The climatic conditions play an important role for a degradation mechanism of photovoltaic modules known as potential induced degradation (PID). The influence of ambient humidity, precipitation and temperature on the leakage current has been investigated with high voltage stress in two different climate regions.
