Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Characterization of controlled salinity waterflooding in carbonate using streaming potential measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The impact of brine composition on rock wettability and oil recovery in carbonates has been an area of active research in recent years. Many studies have reported contradictory results and the underling mechanism(s) are actively debated.

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Experimental investigation of low salinity enhanced oil recovery potential and wettability characterization of Alaska North Slope cores [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Thesis (M.S.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2007Rock wettability and the chemical properties of the injection water influence fluid distribution and multiphase fluid flow behavior in petroleum reservoirs and hence it consequently affects the final ...

Controlling Proppant Wettability Leads to Increase Flowback Recovery and Flow in Frac-Packs

open access: yes, 2018
Recovery of frac-pack fluids is often poor in offshore operations. Large amounts of stimulation fluids left in the fracture may leak-off into the porous formation or block part of the proppant pack thus impairing hydrocarbon production.

Combination of Nanomicellar Technology and In Situ Gelling Polymer as Ocular Drug Delivery System (ODDS) for Cyclosporine-A

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2021
A combination of in situ gelling systems and a loaded drug self-assembling nanomicellar carrier was chosen in this study as a new potential Ocular Drug Delivery System (ODDS) for Cyclosporine-A (CyA), a poorly water-soluble drug.

Plasma EV Proteomics Identifies ECM Remodeling and Inflammatory Proteins LUM and C7 as Candidate Biomarkers in FSHD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is one of the most debilitating and common muscular dystrophies. Despite its severity, no approved therapy exists for FSHD patients. However, several therapeutic candidates are currently under development, and some have recently entered clinical trials, marking the need for reliable ...

The Roles of Nano-Scale Intermolecular Forces on the Film Stability During Wettability Alteration Process of the Oil Reservoir Rocks

open access: yes, 2010
The interfacial phenomenon of spreading and adhesion of fluid on the rock surfaces, known as wettability, has serious implication because of their impact on multi phase flow in the rock hence the recovery efficiency of petroleum reservoirs.
