Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

(Potentiality in actuality) [PDF]
The concept of potentiality plays a central role in the practice of the Oulipo. But what exactly is literary potentiality? “The potential is that which does not yet exist”, says Queneau, but for the Oulipo it is also a property of existing texts that ...

Resolving the Problem of the Expression “Faith as Small as a Mustard Seed” in Matthew 17:20 [PDF]
Jesus’ use of mustard seed as a simile or an analogy in the description of faith has been translated and interpreted in diverse ways over the years. Whilst some vernacular and English translations referred to the size of the seed, some retained a fair ...

The Potential of Neural Network Potentials
In the next half-century, physical chemistry will likely undergo a profound transformation, driven predominantly by the combination of recent advances in quantum chemistry and machine learning (ML). Specifically, equivariant neural network potentials (NNPs) are a breakthrough new tool that are already enabling us to simulate systems at the molecular ...

Post-synaptic Potential Regularization Has Potential [PDF]
Improving generalization is one of the main challenges for training deep neural networks on classification tasks. In particular, a number of techniques have been proposed, aiming to boost the performance on unseen data: from standard data augmentation techniques to the $\ell_2$ regularization, dropout, batch normalization, entropy-driven SGD and many ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The alleged activity of active intellect: A wild goose chase or a puzzle to be solved?
Trying to describe the activity of Aristotle’s active intellect, we will sooner or later realize that we cannot find its right description, because Aristotle did not provide for one.

‘Resources to Needs’: A Paradigm for Addressing the Potentiality of the Urban Volume
Underground resources are often addressed only out of necessity, leading to conflicts between uses and missing opportunities for productive synergies.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
