Combinatorial optimization with photonics-inspired clock models

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2022
Physics-inspired algorithms are being developed to solve NP-hard problems while alleviating issues with scaling and trapping in local minima. Here, a method to search the global minimum of the Potts Hamiltonian with a photonic-inspired model is proposed.

Free energy of the three-state $\tau_2(t_q)$ model as a product of elliptic functions

open access: yes, 2006
{We show that the free energy of the three-state $\tau_2(t_q)$ model can be expressed as products of Jacobi elliptic functions, the arguments being those of an hyperelliptic parametrization of the associated chiral Potts model.

Five Decades of Research on Rape Myths and Victim Interpretation

open access: yesBehavioral Sciences &the Law, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Over the past 5 decades of social science research, scholars have examined false narratives and beliefs associated with rape and sexual assault (often called “rape myths”). This scoping review employs an innovative technique to sample and describe a large cohort of scholarly articles that investigate sexual assault victim interpretation and ...

Potts model solver based on hybrid physical and digital architecture

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2022
Hybrid computing seeks to divide operations based on the strengths of digital, analogue or physical architectures. Here, approximate solutions to the multi-state Potts model are found using a physical Ising solver, networked degenerate optical parametric

Irritability in preschool children with attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder: Analysis of family environmental factors

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Irritability affects one‐third of children and adolescents with attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and is associated with negative outcomes. The family environment plays a prominent role in the child's development, and therefore on the risk for irritability, especially during the preschool period.

New critical frontiers for the Potts and percolation models

open access: yes, 2006
We obtain the critical threshold for a host of Potts and percolation models on lattices having a structure which permits a duality consideration. The consideration generalizes the recently obtained thresholds of Scullard and Ziff for bond and site ...

The Potts Model Built on Sand [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Physics, 2004
We consider the q=4 Potts model on the square lattice with an additional hard-core nonlocal interaction. That interaction arises from the choice of the reference measure taken to be the uniform measure on the recurrent configurations for the abelian sandpile model. In that reference measure some correlation functions have a power-law decay.

Dry–Hot Compound Events Driving the 2024 Pantanal Wildfires

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Extreme wildfires in the Pantanal in 2024 were driven by a cascade of heatwaves, rainfall deficits and the absence of the annual flood pulse. These conditions dried soils and rivers, enhanced fuel accumulation and enabled early and intense fire outbreaks.

Clinical Progression in Alpha‐Synuclein Positive LRRK2‐PD and Sporadic Parkinson's Disease: A Longitudinal Analysis

open access: yesMovement Disorders Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background LRRK2‐Parkinson's disease (LRRK2‐PD) is biologically heterogeneous with approximately 30% lacking aggregated alpha synuclein (αSyn) in cerebrospinal fluid by seed amplification assay (SAA). Prior work has suggested slower progression in LRRK2‐PD compared to sporadic PD (sPD).

On phase transitions of the Potts model with three competing interactions on Cayley tree

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2011
In the present paper we study a phase transition problem for the Potts model with three competing interactions, the nearest neighbors, the second neighbors and triples of neighbors and non-zero external field on Cayley tree of order two.
