Enhancing Okra Productivity and Nutritional Quality With Organic Fertilizers: Comparative Effects on Growth, Yield, and Bioactive Compounds

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy
Okra constitutes a crop of significant nutritional and economic relevance, particularly within the African context. It frequently exhibits constrained productivity and suboptimal nutritional quality under conventional mineral fertilization regimes, which

Challenges and limitations of introducing pigeonpea as a new crop into smallholder farming systems through farmer‐to‐farmer education in Zambia

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Legume plants offer generous benefits for both the planet and people by supporting sustainable farming, food and feed systems through their ability to symbiotically fix atmospheric nitrogen. While grain legumes are cultivated and consumed globally, their adoption, market development, and integration into cropping systems vary.

Growth and yield response of cabbage (brassica oleracea var. capitata ‘star 3011’) to different liquid organic manure types and their combinations

open access: yesCogent Food & Agriculture
The application of organic liquid manures is deemed a viable alternative to the application of inorganic fertilisers in vegetable production. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of different types of liquid manure and their combinations on ...

Historical remote sensing highlights long‐term persistence of Emperor Penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) colonies

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Remote sensing can reveal population dynamics of Antarctic penguin colonies. In this study, we analyze emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) guano stains in remote sensing imagery and discover colony presence predating known records for 18 colonies across Antarctica.

Substitution of fertiliser with poultry manure: Is this economically viable? [PDF]

open access: yes
Rapid expansion of the KwaZulu-Natal poultry industry has resulted in poultry manure and litter production that in certain areas exceeds the potential for use in crop production. If land application exceeds crop requirements, manure production may result

Poultry manure: source of fertilizer, fuel and feed

open access: yes, 2003
The weight of poultry manure produced per day approximately equals the weight of feed eaten by poultry each day. Diet reformulation may reduce valuable nutrient waste but feed waste in manure can be used economically as a source of fertilizer, fuel and ...

How AI and Digital Technologies Can Enhance Sustainable Livestock Manure Management: An Overview From Treatment to Distribution

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sustainable livestock manure management sits at the nexus of climate, nutrient circularity and water quality. This review explores how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms are used across four management stages, that is, treatment, storage, valorisation and distribution, and figures out where integration fails to deliver ...
