Urban Studies, 1996The gap between the poorest people in Britain and the average has grown significantly since the late 1970s. People in the lowest income groups are increasingly overrepresented in council housing. Most council housing is built in large, separate, single-purpose estates. Therefore area-based poverty has grown.

Chronic Poverty and Remote Rural Areas
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2011This paper is a first attempt at putting the case that people living in remote rural areas (RRAs) account for a substantial proportion of the chronically poor. The evidence for this will be gathered from country studies, longitudinal quantitative and qualitative micro-level studies, and the growing volume of work on spatial poverty traps.

Short, thin, or obese? Comparing growth indexes of children from high- and low-poverty areas.
Journal of the American Dietetic Association, 1992This study compared the growth indexes of first-grade, white children living in geographic areas of high poverty (n = 281) and low poverty (n = 442) in the state of Washington. Obesity was the most common growth deviance observed in these children.
