CRYOGENIC DETECTION OF SCINTILLATION LIGHT WITH LARGE AREA SIPM ARRAYS FOR NEXT GENERATION NEUTRINO AND DARK MATTER EXPERIMENTS [PDF]
The collection of scintillation light is a fundamental technique for the detection of neutrino or dark matter interactions in cryogenic environments. The continuous development and deeper understanding of such technique are fundamental to advance the ...

Photonics Breakthroughs 2024: Advances in B5G Radio-Power Over Fiber Fronthaul
Specific demands of providing power to equipment in remote areas or hazardous environments, including populated areas, requiring high throughputs and ultra-low latency in beyond 5G (B5G) mobile communications that are based on Radio over Fiber (RoF) have

Power Over Fiber System for Heterogeneous Sensors Multiplexing
This paper presents a Power-over-Fiber based remote electronic and optical fiber sensors multiplexing scheme. The system architecture consists of a 50-km linear cavity Raman-fiber laser that is used for interrogation of FBG optical fiber sensors. Simultaneously, electronic sensors information is modulated in amplitude while the optical sensors' data ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Multi-core Fiber Based Mm-Wave Generation, Radio-over- Fiber, and Power-over-Fiber [PDF]
We propose a multi-core fiber (MCFs) based concept which simultaneously use to generate millimeter wave (mm-wave) signal; a radio over fiber link; and a power over fiber link. In the proposed system, some cores of MCFs are used to generate mm-wave signal

Blackstart Capability of Modular Multilevel Converters from Partially-Rated Integrated Energy Storage [PDF]
This paper discusses blackstart provision enabled by Modular Multilevel Converters (MMC) with integrated partially-rated Energy Storage (ES) systems. It is demonstrated that ES units integrated in an MMC for ancillary service provision can be utilised to
