What will determine if power to gas will be an important technology in the energy transition over the next years? One can look at the development of a technology as a process that takes place in a technological innovation system (TIS). The TIS includes all actors and institutions that are involved in the development, diffusion and utilization of a ...

This chapter gives an overview of the technological fundamentals of the Power-to-Gas concept. After a general introduction to the concept itself, efficiencies and synergy potentials of the Power-to-Gas technology are described. Furthermore, a very short introduction to similar concepts is given, as well as a view to the technological challenges and ...

Power—to—Gas Production is a process gaining momentum as the base for the energy transition via e-fuels. In the scientific context, a clear initial distinction is still missing and in this chapter the authors aims at filling this gap by first stating the difference between Direct and Indirect PowerdtodGas production.

Methanation for Power-to-Gas applications
2016Methane can be produced via CO and CO2 methanation. However, the CO2 methanation is more relevant in the context of Power-to-Gas (PtG) applications. The two methanation reactions are accompanied by further reactions such as the reverse water gas shift reaction and the Boudouard reaction.
