Dielectrics for Power Capacitors
Additional Conferences (Device Packaging, HiTEC, HiTEN, and CICMT), 2015High voltage capacitors are key components for transient storage and release of electrical energy in mobile electric devices, electric vehicles, stationary power systems and power transmission. Due to their high electric breakdown voltage, self-healing capability and affordability, polymer-based film capacitors are widely used, particularly those made ...

Energy-storage pulsed-power capacitor technology
IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 1992This review addresses fundamentals of dielectric capacitor technology and multifactor stress aging of all classes of insulating media that form elements of this technology. It is directed towards the delineation of failure processes in highly stressed, compact capacitors. Factors affecting the complex aging processes such as thermal, electromechanical,

Power Capacitor Reliability Concepts
7 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition, 1979., 2005This paper addresses itself to the concept of adequate power capacitor reliability. Failure trends for capacitors are presented with probable causes for such trends. The contribution to capacitor reliability on the part of the manufacturer is analyzed with special emphasis on the manufacturer's development programs and quality assurance procedures for ...

Compact, high power capacitor charger
Digest of Technical Papers. PPC-2003. 14th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37472), 2004We are developing compact, high-power chargers for rapid charging of energy storage capacitors. The main application is presently rapid charging of the capacitors inside of compact Marx generators for reprated operation. Compact Marx generators produce output pulses with amplitudes above 300 kV with ns or subns rise-times.

1980 IEEE International Conference on Electrical Insulation, 1980
The high cost of energy prompted General Electric Company's introduction of the Film/Foil power capacitor in January 1979. These new all-film dielectric power capacitors save energy by reducing internal losses to half those of capacitors using conventional Film/Paper dielectric. The change to all-film required a new means to assure impregnation.

Power capacitors - new developments
IEE Colloquium on Capacitors and Inductors for Power Electronics, 1996Capacitors are used in many applications ranging from traction, reactive power compensation through to furnace duties. To varying degrees many applications require capacitors with the highest available energy densities. Two examples include DC filter capacitors for traction applications where weight and volume of the traction convertor is always ...

Capacitors for high power electronics
Digest of Technical Papers. 11th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference (Cat. No.97CH36127), 2002Many different types of capacitors are available today, most being designed for mounting on circuit boards or other electronic equipment. Generally these fall into the classes of ceramic, tantalum, electrolytic or DC film capacitors. Larger sizes of capacitors are used in applications such as motor drives and kilowatt to multimegawatt average power ...

High-power compact capacitor charger
2009 IEEE Pulsed Power Conference, 2009We are reporting on a new design for a compact high power Capacitor charger with a power output that far exceeds the peak power of previously reported designs [1]. For this purpose we are evaluating parallel modular designs with separate inverters, transformers, & rectifiers and compare them with designs with a larger module size.
