Quasilocal Conservation Laws: Why We Need Them

open access: yes, 2012
We argue that conservation laws based on the local matter-only stress-energy-momentum tensor (characterized by energy and momentum per unit volume) cannot adequately explain a wide variety of even very simple physical phenomena because they fail to ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Orbital elements of barium stars formed through a wind accretion scenario [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Taking the total angular momentum conservation in place of the tangential momentum conservation, and considering the square and higher power terms of orbital eccentricity e, the changes of orbital elements of binaries are calculated for wind accretion ...

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

A Novel Unbalance Compensation Method for Distribution Solid-State Transformer Based on Reduced Order Generalized Integrator

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Owing to its modular construction, ability for bi-directional power flow and suitability for AC/DC grids, solid-state transformer (SST) is expected to be the backbone of the future smart grids.

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

A k-Nearest Neighbor Wind Turbine Fault Detection Method Based on Deep Metric Learning and Domain Feature Discrimination

open access: yesIEEE Access
The reliability of wind turbines (WTs) is directly related to the safe and stable operation of wind farms. However, existing data-driven fault detection methods are challenging in coping with the complex operating conditions of WTs, which affects the ...

Data‐model driven rescheduling considering both rotor angle stability and transient voltage stability constraints

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, 2022
Facing the problem of workforce and time costs caused by the rescheduling of large‐scale power grids with renewable energy penetration, and the lack of parallel control research on rotor angle instability and transient voltage instability, a rescheduling

A Conservative Metric of Power Creep

open access: yesGames and Culture, 2022
Collectible card games are taking up more space in popular culture with traditional paper card games even embracing e-sports. However, longevity in such games is not as common, with some suspecting power creep as a culprit behind why some of these games fail. Yet, Magic: the Gathering has not just survived but thrived for over 25 years with the game’s

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.
