Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Power conversion

2023
Abstract When implementing energy storage systems, different forms of energy usually have to be converted into each other. For example, the battery voltage is often not high enough to be used for the conversion of direct current into alternating current. Therefore, inverters and converters are necessary. This chapter explains these power

On the design of a power conversion circuit

APCCAS 2008 - 2008 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems, 2008
A kind of power conversion circuit, which converts positive voltage into negative one is presented according to the principle of negative voltage charge pump, so the DC output voltage is doubled. Factors affecting the speed and accuracy of MOS switches are fully considered, and a charge pump with MOS switches working in linear region is designed ...

Asthma, Power, and the Therapeutic Conversation

Family Process, 1994
Previous research has indicated that family therapy may be of use when a child has chronic, uncontrolled asthma. The significant power relations were considered to be those between the child and the parents. In this article, I examine the wider contextual relations that the family encounters when asthma is a problem, and suggest that these relations ...
