Power Conversion and Its Efficiency in Thermoelectric Materials [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
The basic principles of thermoelectrics rely on the coupling of entropy and electric charge. However, the long-standing dispute of energetics versus entropy has long paralysed the field.

Photoelectrochromic Devices with Enhanced Power Conversion Efficiency. [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel), 2020
In the present work, we propose a new architecture for partly covered photoelectrochromic devices with a modified anode layout, so that the TiO2 film is deposited first on the substrate, covering a small part of its surface, followed by the WO3 film that covers the remaining device area. As a result, the TiO2 film can be subjected to the proper thermal

Chemical looping gasification of benzene as a biomass tar model compound using hematite modified by Ni as an oxygen carrier

open access: yesApplications in Energy and Combustion Science, 2023
The effective removal of tar is a major challenge for biomass gasification. Schemes based on chemical looping gasification (CLG) offer a promising alternative for converting biomass into syngas with low tar content.

Advances in Power-to-Gas Technologies: Cost and Conversion Efficiency

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2022
This paper examines the cost and efficiency dynamics of three prevalent Power-to-Gas technologies. Our results suggest that electrolytic hydrogen production costs will approach but not reach the U.S. Department of Energy's $1.0/kg target by 2030.

Multi-channel nanowire devices for efficient power conversion [PDF]

open access: yesNature Electronics, 2021
Nanowire-based devices can potentially be of use in a variety of electronic applications, from ultrascaled digital circuits to 5G communication networks. However, the devices are typically restricted to low-power applications due to the relatively low electrical conductivity and limited voltage capability of the nanowires.

Power conversion efficiency characterization and optimization for smartphones [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2012 ACM/IEEE international symposium on Low power electronics and design, 2012
Modern smartphones consume significant power and can hardly provide a full day's use between charging operations even with a 2000 mAh battery. This is in spite of many power management techniques being employed in the smartphones. This paper starts from the observation that modern smartphones waste a significant amount of the battery's stored energy ...

Hybrid Power Harvesting for Increased Power Conversion Efficiency

open access: yesIEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, 2015
This work presents a cooperative power harvesting scheme, collecting power from two or more independent ambient energy sources into a single non-linear component. It is shown that the interaction of uncorrelated signals in a nonlinear device can greatly improve the conversion efficiency of the harvester.
