Energy-efficient Conversion of Microalgae to Hydrogen and Power

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2017
Abstract An integrated system for H 2 production from microalgae and its storage is proposed employing enhanced process integration technology (EPI). EPI consists of two core technologies, i.e. exergy recovery and process integration. The proposed system includes a supercritical water gasification, H 2 separation, hydrogenation, and combined cycle.

A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

High-average-power and high-conversion-efficiency continuous wave mode-locked Nd : YVO4 laser with a semiconductor absorber mirror [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A high-power continuous wave (cw) mode-locked Nd:YVO4 solid-state laser was demonstrated by use of a semiconductor absorber mirror (SAM). The maximum average output power was 8.1 W and the optic-to-optic conversion efficiency was about 41 %.

Increase in Power Conversion Efficiency of Bidirectional DC-DC Converter Using 1: 1 Transformer and Pulse-Frequency Modulation Control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper proposes a circuit structure of bidirectional dc-dc converter. This structure uses two switches, two capacitors, a 1: 1 transformer, and a control circuit for pulse-frequency modulation.

Dose‐dependent hepatotoxicity of hydrogen peroxide in HepG2 cells and its modulation by CYP450 induction

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
NMR metabolomics revealed concentration‐dependent metabolic perturbations in HepG2 cells exposed to H2O2. Rifampicin pretreatment enhanced metabolic competence, attenuated toxin‐induced alterations and produced metabolite profiles more consistent with human liver physiology, supporting the use of CYP450‐induced HepG2 models for improved in vitro ...

Optimizing photoexcitation conditions for time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering experiments

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering (TR‐XSS) is a powerful technique to visualize how proteins change their structure in real time after light activation. Selecting the right laser photoexcitation conditions—fluence, excitation geometry, and sample refresh rate—is critical to maximize the experimental signal while avoiding unwanted side effects ...

Feasibility of high frequency alternating current power distribution for the automobile auxiliary electrical system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This study investigates the feasibility and potential benefits of high frequency alternating current (HFAC) for vehicle auxiliary electrical systems. A 100Vrms, 50kHz sinusoidal AC bus is compared with 14V DC and 42V DC electrical systems in terms of ...

Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.

Heterotropic regulation and negative homotropic cooperativity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We identified a structural module common to some proteins that couple negative cooperativity with heterotropic regulation, two features that rarely coexist. These proteins are ring‐like and present an ordered asymmetry whereby noncontacting subunits are symmetric, and their tertiary structure differs from that of contacting subunits.
