Multiport power converters are used to connect various types of energy sources and loads. These sources are usually connected via DC-DC converters to a common DC bus. However, such approach requires multiple power conversions, which reduces the efficiency of the whole system.

Power converter design optimization
1977 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 1977Utilizing the demonstrated capability of nonlinear programming algorithms, a practical design optimization approach for power converters is established which allows conception of a design to meet all power-circuit performance requirements and concurrently optimize a defined quantity such as weight or losses.

This chapter presents an introduction to the main applications and some general guidelines for high-power converters. Afterward, new thyristor-based devices are introduced that may be used in future medium-voltage power converters. Following that, a short introduction to high-power inverters and dc-dc converters is given.

For many electric motor drives constant angular velocity (ωm) and constant torque (Tm) operation is acceptable. Because of P = Tm⋅ωm the power delivered to the load will be constant as well. In many residential (e.g., air conditioner), commercial (e.g., elevator), and industrial (e.g., rolling mill, paper manufacturing) applications, the speed of ...

A wireless power transfer is composed of power antennas and power circuits. Besides the antennas introduced in the Chap. 3, many circuit techniques have already been developed in past years. They can be classified into the power converters and the power management techniques. We introduce the power converters in this chapter.
