Courtroom Power Distance Dynamics
The book presents a comprehensive reconceptualization of Geert Hofstede’s well-known concept of power distance, applying the theory to the specific case of judge–witness courtroom interactions in Polish regional courts. In the light of the detailed critique of Hofstede’s original approach to power distance, the book first carefully develops a three ...

Power Increases Social Distance [PDF]
Five experiments investigated the effect of power on social distance. Although increased social distance has been suggested to be an underlying mechanism for a number of the effects of power, there is little empirical evidence directly supporting this claim. Our first three experiments found that power increases social distance toward others.

Powers of distance-hereditary graphs
Powers of graphs that belong to several classes have been studied. In this paper, the authors investigate powers of distance-hereditary graphs. A connected graph \(G\) is distance-hereditary if every induced path \(H\) of \(G\) is isometric; that is, the distance of any two vertices in \(H\) equals their distance in \(G\). For \(G\) distance-hereditary,

Isolation by distance in populations with power-law dispersal [PDF]
Abstract Limited dispersal of individuals between generations results in isolation by distance, in which individuals further apart in space tend to be less related. Classic models of isolation by distance assume that dispersal distances are drawn from a thin-tailed distribution and predict that the proportion of the genome that is ...
