Fast Power-Up Active Link Protection in Autonomous Distributed Transmitter Power Control

2008 International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference, 2008
In this work, we propose an enhancement to the DPC/ALP (distributed power control with active link protection) algorithm that allows fast power ramp-up without compromising the ALP guarantee. The original DPC algorithm was first augmented with ALP to provide absolute performance guarantees.

Lightning protection of overhead power distribution lines

IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2007
AbstractThere are two major protective methods against lightning outages on overhead distribution lines. One is by use of surge arresters and the other is by an overhead ground wire. Surge arresters have rather constant effect regardless of the type of lightning outage causes.

Distributed Generation integration with enhanced power system protection

2015 International Conference on Technological Advancements in Power and Energy (TAP Energy), 2015
Distributed Generation (DG) has increased tremendously from last two decades because of its advantages like production of highly reliable power by utilizing the renewable resources. But due to the integration of DG, power quality issues and power system protection problems arise.

Influence of harmonics on power distribution system protection

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1988
The effects of nonsinusoidal voltages and currents on the performance of static underfrequency and overcurrent relays are experimentally studied. The tests were conducted in such a way that the frequency, amplitude and phase shift of individual harmonics could be adjusted in a controlled manner by using a waveform generator with a phase-locking circuit.

Distributed Generation: impact on Protections and Power Quality

IEEE Latin America Transactions, 2013
The present energy crisis drives to carry to an extreme the use of all the available energy sources, which need to be connected in their closest point. Traditional electric systems are changing their characteristics. Power quality is one of the aspects modified by the presence of distributed generation (DG), specially respect to harmonics, flicker ...

Review on DC Distribution Network Protection Technology with Distributed Power Supply

2018 Chinese Automation Congress (CAC), 2018
With the rapid development of power electronics technology, DC distribution network has technical and economic advantages in many fields and has great development space. In this paper, the topology of the DC distribution network with two power supply “hand in hand” is taken as the research object, and the protection configuration of the DC distribution

Challenges of DC Data Center Power Distribution Protection

13th International Conference on Development in Power System Protection 2016 (DPSP), 2016
The power distribution grid of a DC data center is unique due to the highly capacitive characteristics of both the output of the DC power source (Uninterruptable Power Supply - UPS) and the input of the distributed load (multiple Power Supply Units - PSU). In case of a short-circuit to ground in such a system, oscillations are observed due to discharge

Power electronic-based protection for direct-current power distribution in micro-grids

2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA), 2014
DC power distribution can be more effective than AC power distribution in the built environment. However, DC bus protection by using DC circuit breaker (CB) can be costly. This paper proposes a protection method which adopts power electronic-based methods to isolate the faulted segment instead of using CBs.

Influence of Distribution Network Under Distributed power access on Relay Protection

2019 IEEE Sustainable Power and Energy Conference (iSPEC), 2019
With the vigorous development of distributed generation, especially the large-scale intermittent renewable energy access, the uncertainty of distribution network load forecasting, planning and operation has increased, which brings challenges to the stable operation of the distribution network.

Traveling Wave Based Method for Protecting Power Distribution Systems with Distributed Generations

2019 International Energy and Sustainability Conference (IESC), 2019
Active distribution systems with high penetration of inverter based distributed generations such as solar generation have characteristics of varied fundamental frequency fault current contributions and lack of zero and negative sequence fault currents. Therefore, existing protection methods based on increase of short circuit currents due to faults may ...
