Power factor and power factor control alternatives for mines

Conference Record of the 1988 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2003
The benefits of controlling power factor are briefly reviewed. Power-factor compensators suitable for mine power systems are discussed along with a novel implementation of an adaptive power factor controller. An economic analysis technique for determining the amount and type of compensation is given.

A High-Power-Density Power Factor Correction Front End Based on Seven-Level Flying Capacitor Multilevel Converter

IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics, 2019
This paper presents a power factor correction (PFC) front end based on a seven-level flying capacitor multilevel (FCML) boost converter. Compared to the conventional two-level boost converter, the proposed seven-level FCML converter features the use of ...

Reactive power and power factor

Electrical Engineering, 1933
GENERAL definitions exist for potential, current, and active and reactive power, that are independent of wave form and of circuit conditions. In order to use these quantities in circuit analysis when there are harmonics present, it is necessary to know their individual harmonic components.

Interleaved Landsman Converter Fed EV Battery Charger with Power Factor Correction

IEEE Power India International Conference, 2018
harger followed by a flyback converter, is designed and evaluated to develop a low cost charging solution for the EV battery. A built-in wave-shaping feature is obtained at the front-end of the charger due to power factor correction (PFC) characteristics

The power factor in mechanical system

2013 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics (ICM), 2013
This paper represents a analytical, simulation and experimental study of power factor in mechanical system. In electrical system, power factor is often used to evaluate how intense we can use the electrical power as a active electrical power. It is useful when considering the power consumption of the electrical system.

A hook-on power factor meter

Electrical Engineering, 1951
INTEREST in extending the hook-on technique to measurement of 3-phase power factor has resulted in the development of a hook-on power factor meter. Prerequisites were light weight, simple operation, and wide range (0 to 1.0 power factor lead and lag, 100 to 600 volts, 15 to 600 amperes).

Power, reactive volt-amperes, power factor

Electrical Engineering, 1933
The relation between power, reactive volt-amperes, and power factor is discussed for sinusoidal electromotive forces and currents. Reactive volt-amperes is defined as the flow of stored energy into the circuit and is deduced from the stored energy cycle.

A Standard of Low Power Factor

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1933
NEED of a suitable standard of low power factor for use in checking the accuracy of the various devices and bridges employed in the measurement of loss in dielectric samples is pointed out in this paper. The relative merits of the different methods that have been proposed for this purpose are discussed and then the low power factor standard which has ...
